Looks like Alex Jones may finally be pushed into Chapter 7 bankruptcy - liquidation of personal assets including his stake in his media company.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Too bad the families won't get much since he's been heavily spending everything he has in anticipation of this day. And it looks like he might be breaking some laws by funneling millions to his dad to shelter it from the bankruptcy.

When you call anything you don't like "lawfare" you take away from the legitimate use of the term. Lawfare is used by Dems to bring down Trump and others.

Alex Jones defamed people, refused to participate in basic discovery, and now has to lie in the bed he made.

This has nothing to do with lawfare.

He stepped over the line and slandered people who had their children murdered. It was absolutely despicable.

Exactly, why should any families get his personal money? Did he shoot their kids?

Terrible take. This isn't a left vs right issue. This is a right vs wrong issue. Dare I say, a good vs evil issue. And Alex Jones is NOT the good guy, here.

Just because you might agree with a guy on some stuff doesn't make that person right everywhere else or even good. Some people just do crappy things to others and thankfully they sometimes have to account for it.

No, you're absolutely wrong. Again. It is not a "right versus wrong" issue as that is subjective. It is a legal versus illegal issue. When you conflate the two you wind up with someone being forced into bankruptcy for exercising his right to free speech.

And Remington that had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting was gutted. Now tell me that's not some juicy lawfare. Those attorneys walked away with about $21 million for some of the victims of the deranged school shooter. It was not Remington or the idiot Alex Jones that pulled the gd trigger. The hypocrites in this world can't tell me that these are noble pursuits.

Criminal vs. civil, different burdens of proof, radically different facts, but yeah, totally the same.

He accused the families of perpetuating a hoax and that they were "crisis actors" regarding the Sandy Hook shooting. It's defamation. Do you disagree?

Check again.

IIRC the families were approached by anti AJ forces who wanted to sink Jones.
They used families to present a case based on the premise that he incited folks to harass families.
The "plaintiffs" asked for the world in discovery, and when Jones didn't provide things he likely didn't even have, claimed he failed to comply.
The judge played along and moved it to summary judgment.
The jury was brought in & told he was guilty and that their only role was to assign a dollar figure.

Lawfare.

You don't have a first amendment right to defame people. This was someone who chose to not participate in the lawsuit AT ALL, and got *****slapped by a default judgment. If AJ had fought this tooth and nail and lost, you might have a point.

He did the opposite of the MSM. He made a false statement and then almost immediately retracted it, over and over and over again.

Honestly this should set a precedent for anyone to sue the media anytime something false is said about them.

It's a liable versus not liable issue. Alex Jones inflicted damages on the Sandy Hook families and a civil jury found him liable for those damages. Harassment is not protected free speech.

File suit in a political landscape that favors you and you will win

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Sandy Hooks families are grifters and using their dead kids to try to remove gun rights. Their lawsuit against Remington should have been tossed out of court, and likely would have eventually on federal appeal, but they chose to settle. Their piece of **** lawyer is now doing the same with the Uvalde families with the same goals in mind.

Alex Jones did slander them and as already noted, he refused to participate in discovery which resulted in the summary judgement against him.

They are using lawfare to try to destroy gun rights, and Jones gave them free ammo to target him as well. So in this case, both are true.

And Jones is an idiot and brought it completely on himself. The political right needs to stop idolizing this guy as some kind of prophet because he is just as much of a grifter as the Sandy Hook families.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

The judgement amount against Jones is outrageous.

Quote:

Alex Jones must pay $1.1 billion of Sandy Hook damages despite bankruptcy, judge rules

Lawyers take 30%. Who's the winner here? It's not the families.
