This, i bet this is the primary reason.
I've followed the FBI crime stats for a number of years, and violent crime was going down consistently until around 2020. 2020 had the peaceful BLM protests, followed by defund the Cops, so violence skyrocketed.
I think in the last two years police departments in clue cities also refused to cooperate with the FBI on stats (around race). So at this point the numbers are just bull*****

Baseball bats still cause more deaths than "assault weapons" though
