I was a little surprised this went through in light of the Hamas protests. But for one thing school is out for the summer and even fake students aren't protesting.

Another thing is Israel has been very smart about this. Modern fighters are multinational conglomerate made vehicles and Israel produces some high tech components used in the fighter jets. I bet there are contingencies in the contracts that supersede politics.

They have been carefully watching the war in Ukraine. Israel relies a lot on air power to be dominant in the region and they have observed the strengths and weaknesses of Russian manufactured air defenses, and they can see what contingencies they might have to deal with with Iran if there are not major political changes in Iran soon. The F35 gives them many more options against potential threats.
