How can you legally restrict this? Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

That's what the legislation says. What would the lawsuit be?

This is wholly a power of the states.

Ah so the state can say who can leave a city by vote? Interesting, did not know that. Wonder if Texas will allow more of this.

Yes, always been limited on leaving a city. This exception was only made because when it was obvious the state was about to make it difficult for cities to involuntarily annex areas some cities rushed out and annexed as much as they could regardless of services offered or anything else. This is a way to give those citizens a chance to now vote on those annexations, or remove them altogether.

Lost Creek is just across hwy 360 from Westlake HS. It has basically one entry road into it, and then you can navigate your way to the backside of Barton Creek CC. There is crime there already.

We live a bit west of there, and are in an ETJ - not Austin, and our trash pickup is just fine, as is our water (Barton Creek Water District). our Fire/EMS is serviced by Travis County. Prop tax rates about .5% lower than CoA.

I bet your Fire/EMS is provided by an Emergency Services District (ESD) - not the county. Just sayin'.

Love to see more of this. Baton Rouge finally lost the fight to keep St. George from pulling out. Poor city management can have severe consequences.

I think as we see more of this in Texas it will open minds to Texas eventually doing the same thing.

This secession thing looks like it may be catching on….

My brother lives in Seven Oaks, which looks like it's on the wrong side of BCR to be in Lost Creek. That seems like the kind of area that would want to disassociate itself though. They already have their own school district.
