I thought Portugal just revamped it with new qualifications, not totally rid of it. Not arguing, just my interpretation from my little research.
Just meant its not as easy as it once was.

There's plenty of places in the United States that are relatively shielded from the lunacy of todays world. Get away from cities.

I wouldn't live in Ecuador on the mainland, but I would love to retire in the Galapagos Islands. I went there about 10 years ago with my dad and it was an amazing trip. They have visa restrictions to control the population on the islands, I think it only allows non-citizens three months a year if I recall correctly.

BVI's, or Aruba. If you are not an island guy then a beach town outside of Barcelona Spain would be a great spot.

Also your money goes a very long way in Argentina. Mendoza is where I'm heading if the world starts burning and exploding. No one cares much about that side of the Andes. Drink Malbec and grow grapes.

I plan on utilizing my dual citizenship, and will most likely pick a tax advantaged EU Member State.

We've talked about this quite a bit. I live close to my family now, so any move would be dependent on my parents' health.

Also, I worry about the social isolation of expat life.

I work for with a lot of Japanese expats and like their culture more and more. In a lot of ways Japan seems to be more like America was decades ago except they are pretty much agnostic. Too bad I cannot speak the language.
Just try to immigrate to Japan, not hard but plenty of paperwork.

I would move to Greece for the following reasons:

1. I speak Greek
2. We still own our family homes in the villages from where my parents are from.
3. Great climate and people.

I think some of you need a stint in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan or any of those Islamic hell holes. You will begin to appreciate America more.
This is kind of a silly take. Just because those places are terrible and the US is objectively better than them doesn't mean there aren't place that could be better to live in than the US.

For the two posters who mentioned "Columbia".

Columbia is the Ivy League school in NYC.

Colombia is the Latin American country in the NW corner of South America.

I know people that think Switzerland is.

Switzerland has always made money with other people's money, high technology and by avoiding stupid people.

I may be biased compared to y'all, but I highly recommend Luxembourg. I've been here now almost 5 years and on the verge of getting my citizenship. While it's part of the Socialist EU, it's small and a very wealthy bubble in EU and great for families. We've really enjoyed it and are doing are best to get citizenship for our children who are fluent in Luxembourgish, German, and close to fluency in French (2-3 more years they'll be there). Observing the mess that the US from a distance the past couple years, this has been one of the best decisions we've made so far as a family. Highly recommend here.

I've already made the move. It's a great place to live if you like the outdoors and it does kind of feel like its own country.

I worked in Canada for a few years, recently. I like the country. Racism is frowned upon. The people are a bit passive-aggressive though. The downside is Islam is claiming Canada.

Caribbean - Puerto Rico is a tax haven that doesn't require a passport. There are several other islands that offer a citizenship for $100k.

The good part about the Islamists is they are right at the throat of the Woke here in Canada. Killing it in many schools. It's getting interesting to watch. Sad that Christians can't mount the same fight.

Also it's big time passive aggressive. I wouldn't say Canadians as a whole are super friendly anymore. Most are so close to the edge financially they don't give to **** about anyone else.

I asked on another thread also, but what about Antigua in the Caribbean? I've gotten mixed signals on this. Was told they are trying to lure wealthy Americans with perks such as no taxes, no Visa required, etc. (if not mistaken). But I've also heard the Chinese are buying the island.
