It is absolutely hilarious to listen to ESPN talk about Caitlin Clark then immediately reverse and talk about Angel Reese. The talking heads hate the fact that a white player is dominating both on and off the court (deservingly so), so they have to flip to Angel
Yep. It has to really be frustrating to them that not just Clark, but the top 2 picks and 3 of the top 5 are what appear to be normal white girls.

By the way, Caitlin Clark is amazing. For those of us with young daughters that play basketball, she is awesome to watch!

#1 pick

#2 pick

#5 pick

If more WNBA women looked like this I might watch.

Lol. No, I wouldn't. But I'd certainly pay more attention when they showed them dressed up like that.

Women's basketball is booming right now and the journalism that got it there will continue.

Your definition of "booming" must be different than mine.
I guess an 800% increase in viewers since 2009 isn't booming.
Average attendance in 2023 was roughly 6,600 per game. 2023 WNBA finals drew about 725,000 views. The only reason the WNBA stays afloat is due to being subsidized by the NBA, 800% increase in viewers since 2009 or not.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Caitlyn Clark would have made more money playing at Iowa again next season. I would have stayed and try to get a natty. No one watches that crap and these franchises lose money.
The elite 8 game against LSU drew 14 million views, the national championship against UConn 17 million. Sports journalism loves their drama and the Clark vs Reese matchup brought the juice.

If they can somehow combine the Housewives show and women's sports they'd grow their audience. Drama = $

If they have no shame and want the big bucks than this is the ways.

$70k is a great starting salary considering she should not have much of any college debt. What is the complaint?

I was curious as to what the name of the Dallas WNBA team was so I clicked over from the ESPN MLB scores I keep open to the WNBA tab. I laughed when I looked for the Houston franchise and discovered that not only is there not a team there, but there are only 12 teams in the whole league. Fans watching the games is booming, but the league can only support 12 teams subsidized by the NBA?

Booming... yeah, OK...

Caitlin Clark is must watch for me, but I'll stop tuning in if the pundits keep trying to redirect her spotlight on to others.

theyve had headlines like this for the past 3 weeks. like the mexicans or brits with soccer, they just cant stand seeing their sport taken over by evil, western whitey.
Reality? Lol.

Like 40% of layups are made in the WNBA vs 38% in college? That kind of reality?

You are correct. They need to get it to translate to the WNBA game. The draft was 2.4 million viewers, which never broke 750,000 before.

Clark's first game is May 14th, we can circle back to this discussion with the viewership ratings and attendance.

College basketball set ratings and attendance records the last two years. Not sure what else you want. May 14th is the start of the WNBA season, we can see what it's like then. I'm willing to bet it's better than ever before.
