The movie industry support folks (set designers/builders, wardrobe, assistants, lighting guys, gaffers, caterers, fluffers, etc.) should all be updating their resumes.....

When do you think your industry will replace you?

Fortunately, AI could only do part of my duties. I'm required to be on site, physically, for observations, feedback and operational work at my DC's. AI can most certainly take care of the headache portion, if they'd like!

Never, because I will be semi retired in late 2026 and cavorting around Europe

then AI can't replace substitute teachers in a classroom in Florida for at least another few decades before the humanoid robots come online.

of course, it also means I am old and will die sooner than some of the truck drivers who will be out of a profession in 2035.

There will always be a market for jobs with human interaction. People won't choose to interact with soul-less, emotionless, thoughtless computers for everything in their lives.

AI won't replace my profession, but we will have to pivot what we do each day, which is not a bad thing. My profession will just become more productive.

No, it can't do everything, but it will shortly be able to do most things that people do, and better and faster.

And even starting decades ago when I would call some customer service number and only be able to "talk to a machine" by pushing buttons I thought "There are more people around than ever, why can't I actually talk to a real person?" But it was just an early preview.

People are right to be scared of the "productivity replacement" potential of AI, but not for the right reasons.

When worried about what we'll do to pay for our standard of living - remember that the productivity gains are also going to drop the relative effort necessary to afford today's standard. For example - let's say AI comes in and eliminates the need to 50% of tasks humans are doing today. Well, one average humans are going to work half as hard to produce the same standards of living. What if everyone lives in the same houses, drives the same quality cars, enjoys the same entertainment - but everyone works half as many hours. Or maybe you still work the same amount of hours, but retire a lot earlier. One way or another - we would have decreased the human effort necessary to produce the same standard of living.

For me the reason why it's scary is the impact technology and productivity improvements have on our individual and collective psych. Humans were created to (or evolved to, depending on your belief) struggle to create order out of chaos. We actually crave and need those challenges to overcome - they help develop our character, and struggle creates society structure we depend on. I think A LOT of the mental health crisis we observe today stems from just how unnecessary technology gains have made a lot of people feel.

The number of people that cannot answer the simple questions like "what is the purpose of your life", "who needs you" or "why do you exist" creates so much chaos for our society. AI has the potential to make this much, much worse.

The first thing that will die with AI is "digital truth".
Older folks will remember what happened when someone xeroxed a xeroxed copy of a xeroxed copy...

As AI searches the internet and creates new AI generated information, new AI searches will reach out, find that AI created information, and create even more AI information. Rinse and repeat until the entire internet will be nothing but watered down AI generated content.

No one will be able to discern what is real, vs what is AI generated. We see it happening already - you can never be sure what is real and what is fake.

The job of librarian - the keeper of original source content - hard-copies of books, newspapers, pictures, film, recordings, music etc - will become more critical than ever.

We have made a serious error with AI. Instead of using it to produce music, photos, and videos, we should use it to clean house and do laundry so we can pursue the arts.

I find that most modern persons will do absolutely everything they can to avoid interacting with other humans directly.

Help desks will be replaced and downsized. Tech support could be significantly downsized. It will make software developers more efficient which means fewer will be needed.

Customer service reps will be replaced. AI will replace the FAQ, which in most cases sucks.

The medical field will be seriously impacted. Diagnosis will be done by AI. That's means doctors can see more patients, which means fewer doctors.

Legal research. AI will significantly impact that area. I think fewer lawyers will be needed going forward because of it.

Any area that involves information and knowledge processing and expression is at risk. Web sites and apps have already replaced order takers at restaurants when ordering pick up or delivery, as an example. I haven't used a human to order take out or delivery in a long time. AI take stuff like that to the next level.

Robotics will continue to advance and replace humans who deal in the physical world.

I would prefer not to, because I don't want to get into an argument as to why my profession will or won't be replaced by AI.

It could definitely make my job more efficient once it "learned" all the nuances, so it would reduce the number of my type of workers needed, but it would need oversight and sanity checking to deal with all the special cases and conditions and best judgement scenarios.

Frankly, I am knowledgeable and willing to do skilled labor. I have some experience with nearly all the trade work so I could do that a few years to get by if needed, and frankly, I would probably enjoy it.

Seriously, man ain't ever gonna be God and he can't serve up a anything original. All attempts to be God will fail, and in that sense it will be nice to watch the self-styled gods fail. Unfortunately there will be victims.

Same here. But I dont think AI could do my job/want my job. They would give it back to a human due to having to deal with union workers and the sheer stress of the job.

AI has already had a significant impact on my career not to mention government meddling. CFPB can go to hell.

That being said I don't think AI can run cows so pretty sure the family business will always have a spot for me.

There would have to be literal walking and talking robots to replace me. Sure, maybe they'll be around one day, but it won't be anytime soon. They would also need to have some sort of personality, which they won't. Add as much bold as you'd like, it won't happen. I don't live my life scared.
