What on earth. The fact that this is even a thing makes me angry. Can you imagine paying for university for your kid and he/she takes this. Or a kid taking out student loans (later to be forgiven by Biden) for this.

If it's within a degree about English literature, I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with a Rowling class. She is probably the most important English language author of the 21st century, and her works are actually pretty good all around.

Now, why anyone would get a degree in English literature is an entirely different, and very relevant, question.

Don't know who this lib is, or what @baptist_news is, but neither one of them speak for Southern Baptists.

He appears to be a Limousine Liberal or possibly infected with TDS.

@baptist_news seems as neutral as the ACLU

Not Affirming Mentally ILL people's choices <> Hating Trans. Hope that helps...

Agreed. My wife is a middle school librarian and Harry Potter remains, without question, the heavy weight literary champion among young people and nothing is even close.

As an aside, the commies will probably try to ban the series some day as it promotes boy/girl puppy love, good vs. evil, nuclear families, and western values.

The negative reaction to this is obviously driven by two main points. First, Rowling, who is a big lib/LGBT supporter, has been doing nothing more than standing up for actual women in the face of the trans lunancy.

Second, seeing college aged kids pretending to ride brooms around campus makes me want to back over them with my pickup.

Spending a whole class one YA lit series seems like a giant waste of time and tuition.

Today in my Harry Potter class at Baylor we had a hard and necessary conversation about JK Rowling and her hatred of trans- people.

Why does the left always mistake dislike with the "trans agenda" with hatred? Rowling's does not hate trans people, she dislikes the trans activist narrative. Two completely different things.

As works of literature the HP series are actually quite good. The fact that they're relatively contemporary doesn't change that. There's extensive character development, exploration of deep and varied themes, and just well written. And as the current collegiate generation definitely grew up reading them I can definitely understand taking a deeper dive into the writing.

However, the dorks riding brooms around campus and wearing costumes definitely deserve derision.

And the idea that Rowling is somehow transphopic or bigoted is patently absurd. Just as all these alleged "trans allies" are patently absurd. They're rejecting science and just because the writer wrote fantasy novels doesn't mean she should bow to fantasy in real life.

I have read and really like the books. A whole semester on them is ridiculous.

This. If you look at the best selling books of all time Rowling has 7 spots in the top 25, and that's all books, ever. As far as books sold by a single author, she might be second only to Cervantes, Dickens, and maybe one or two others. Hell, she might even have sold more than Dickens. It's impossible to deny her impact on literature, whatever you think of her writing.

Because if you aren't coddling them, you're an evil Nazi who is literally trying to wipe them from existence. There is no in-between because they have been raised to believe in the validity, sanctity, and righteousness of their opinions merely because they hold them. If their opinion is valid, sacrosanct, and righteous, then any opposite or conflicting opinion must then be the opposite of those things: invalid, heretical, and evil.

Two reasons minimum
  • They are sociological liars
  • They are promoting people, including children, to have hormone therapy and body mutilaton.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

I've never read the books, and have no intention of doing so. I've only managed to watch the first 6 movies (I think it's 6), but that last 2-part movie I haven't gotten around to. So I'm not in a target audience for this kind of class.

But the idea of focusing a part of an English lit class on modern literary works does not seem out of line. IMO no different than having a few weeks devoted to the works of Shakespeare or Chaucer or Dickens, and I'll agree with the assertion that her work has been very influential on the young among us. Both of my kids have read each of these books multiple times (much like I read the Narnia books multiple times as a kid). But an entire course focused on her works does seem a bit much. And the quidditch thing? GAY!

Oh, and I'm all about telling Baylor to **** off and laugh at them for any and every thing, but I have to wonder if Texas A&M has any similar class in its offerings.

It's getting harder and harder to justify sending kids to college for anything other than being able to put it on their resume. It's insane how worthless it's becoming

My Senior Seminar for English was a class on marriage plots. Analyzed fairy tales, watched When Harry Met Sally, read Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre, along with other short stories.

I would think you would find this similar

Great class though

There's nothing wrong with classes like this. If you need an elective or have an interest, I think it's awesome to have the opportunity to take a "fun" class or several that interest you.

The issue is that the professor took the opportunity to turn the course material into a discussion of trans-hate just because the author thinks you can't be a woman if you were born with a *****.

And then went to twitter to share...

The SBC has never had a relationship with Baylor. It was the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

The SBC has no direct connection (funding, etc.) to any school outside of its 5 seminaries. It does, however, list schools, including Baylor, on its website and their state baptist affiliations.
