The entire league is dominated by statistics. Get the bookie to confirm games wagered on and compare this to his statistics.

Until they can show he bet on baseball, no one should really care. If they can, he should be out of the game.

The leagues (pro and college) have been flying way too close to the sun since live betting and prop betting blew up a few years back. Athletes betting their own unders is going to become a huge issue soon imo.
On Ohtani specifically, either the interpreter is a fall guy, or Ohtani is dumber than anyone could have possibly imagined. Both choices seem equally likely at this point.

Feels like the interpreter is probably being paid by someone to take the fall, but we will never know. There is NO WAY baseball is going to let anything tarnish Ohtani.

I am having a hard time seeing how Ohtani did not know about this. If he claims the interpreter was stealing the money that means the book maker was in on it with the interpreter which is suspect to say the least. Once the book maker gets interviewed the truth will become more clear.

If he's betting and fixing games or stats, he wouldn't be $4.5 million in the hole...

Clearly he's trolling. But it's funny because it's true.

Being discussed in the baseball forum, but there are several issues critical here.

First, the initial statement was that he was "covering" the interpreter's gambling debt. Then, he said, no, the interpreter accessed his (multiple or likely multiple) accounts and stole from him. Obviously, both can not be true.

Second, if the latter is true (theft), they haven't filed a police report, almost certainly because doing so carries penalties for false reporting. I think they want to project the idea that they're still investigating to see how much the theft involved, but that's the job of the detective.

Third, MLB will cover this up and has already started to. Even ESPN has started to lose interest, probably because they can't find any additional information to report.

Finally, the smaller blogs and youtube channels will probably stay on this. So we'll see.
