I didn't remember that he had the power to block it and refused. I had forgotten how the UN council works.

The point is now every damn person screeching for a cease fire can say that Israel is in defiance of the UN security council. It helps to legitimize the claims that Israel is committing war crimes and it puts them in the same position as Russia on the world's stage.

You'll now see all kinds of UN and other int'l orgs start moving against the interests of Israel. They now have cover.
