So it the Metaverse dead? I think Zuck was envisioning a world were everyone wears giant goggles and sees everyone else as 80s style cartoonish figures.

Zuck can only make money off stolen ideas. This was one of the only things he himself pushed and it failed miserably.

Was there though? I feel like most people thought it was a stupid idea to begin with if they cared enough to notice. The people actually excited enough about the technology to adopt it were virtually nonexistent, pun intended.

Don't think so. He cut a bunch of costs to get it financially back on track and I think it's still in their vision.

It's not going away. He may not be the one that gets first mover advantage with it but some version of it will happen.

I bought an Oculus Quest 2 a few years back and got a couple of months enjoyment out of it (Half-life Alyx was really good) but pretty quickly lost interest in it. The metaverse, from what I saw, was just boring with nothing to really do. It wasn't clear who this was supposed to be for.

I've since passed the Oculus to one of my kids who seems to like it more than I did, but just for games and not the metaverse.

Same experience with the Oculus 2. A couple of months of play, and then they've sat.

Amazing visual experience, but clunky to wear, and not enough content. Fun thing at a party to bring out if you can cast what's happening for the player(s) on a screen for others to watch/be part of.

I call this the Nintendo Wii effect. Everyone bought one cause they played it at a friend's house. Then they don't play it after about 2 months.

Could be called the POG effect as well.

The idea of a virtual world isn't dead....but Zuckerberg won't be the leading the way to create it.

On a side note, do y'all really believe that that dork of a man is the brains behind the whole billion dollar operation. Hint: he's just the figurehead/name brand.

zuck maintains that the metaverse is a long-term bet (like 10+ years away). the interim strategy is adoption of augmented reality a-la Vision Pro and quest 3 and making wearables more fashionable.

facebook/instagram is still a money printing machine so meta can afford to throw money at laying the groundwork for AR and VR becoming a bigger thing. say what you want but he's the ceo of a trillion dollar company he founded in his dorm room, he's doing something right.
