California Gov. Gavin Newsom praises Nikki Haley for helping Democrats make the case against Trump: 'One of our better surrogates'

Quote:

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has become one of the "better surrogates" for Democrats in 2024, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday.

Haley, who is Donald Trump's last remaining GOP primary rival, has attacked the former president throughout the race, arguing that the 77-year-old is too old to serve another term White House and warning that his "chaos" will hurt Republican chances at the ballot boxes in November.

"I think she's one of our better surrogates, so I hope she stays in [the GOP primary race]," Newsom, 56, told CNN host Jake Tapper, arguing that her criticisms of the former president are "spot on."

Any further doubt as to why she's staying in the race despite having no business remaining any longer?

Bottom line, Haley represents the RINOs choice. Republicans - IN NAME ONLY. They would rather have another term of Biden than another term of Trump.

That's strange. There are a lot of "Reagan Republicans" on this very board, that spend their rare time and effort defending almost every single leftist talking point milliseconds after it is decided upon by the DNC, that seem to really like her.

Republican voters want him back. If you think it's dems putting him over the top then it's republican voters who aren't doing their part and voting for DeSantis. So what did Trump do to ruin your day?

I don't even know what being a Regan Republican means. I'm just an anti-establishment/big government/globalism conservative. Nikki Haley is none of those things.

He's a liberal, like the rest of my list, and a horrible choice for Republicans. Remember, he supported and voted for both Clintons. I'm just agreeing with your statement "if you vote for a Marxist, you're a marxist".

OK, but again I think your beef is with millions of republican voters who were happy with what Trump did in his first term and don't want to change candidates. Or is your problem with Trump that he governed the way millions of Republican voters wanted?

I think those liberal Republicans aren't adhering to the stated tenets of conservatism, like they claim to, and like Trump. I have "beef" with those liberals and Trump. I've got enough to go around.

Again, just agreeing with your statement. If it applies to Haley, which I agree it does, it applies to Trump, Romney, Newsome, et. al.

Other than being a good looking guy, I'm not sure why the Dems would be pushing for him as a possible replacement. He's a complete failure as a governor and was as mayor, too. He's never left a city or state better than when he got it.

The Elites want him because he would further their agenda (in that regard, his mayor and governor terms have been highly successful). The dependents want him because they are conditioned to vote for whoever they are told to keep the free money flowing. For the LIV's the endorsement from the box in the living room is all they need, plus "being a good looking guy" helps too.

Trump is an outsider and a disrupter to the uniparty establishment. He bears the (R) party designation, which does make him a RINO, but in the best possible way. The GOP had to be shaken up because it was moving too far left in it's current state.

Trump is more of a cultural conservative, 3rd party candidate that hijacked the Republican party. Personally, I'm grateful that he did. I absolutely loathed what the old Republican party had become. I had less and less in common with that party. It would seem that millions of voters thought the same.

Yes...it's okay with me. If the GOP is to survive, this is what it will take to right ship. Trump's tenure is only half the battle though. We're going to need a DeSantis, along with other fiscal conservatives in the HoR and Senate to fix the fiscal side of the GOP house. It's an unconventional, long term strategy, but I don't see another way at this time...all things considered.

Haley would be a return to business as usual under the old GOP standard. They give Democrats a free pass on way too much. They are not concerned about getting a fair deal in the house and senate; only that they get to keep their comfy seat of power and prolonged enrichment at taxpayer expense. She's a RINO...in the worst possible way.

So you want a Republican Party that is not conservative and is in fact more left leaning, as long as it is a cult of personality based on Trump.

So it's not republican but it's not RINO because it's Trump.

Respectfully, your "patience" needs work, hombre.. You want change immediately. Politics is like turning an oceanliner 180 degrees in rough seas. The GOP has been damaged over decades and it will take time to move it back to where guys like us will be semi-happy with it.

For the record, I'm a fiscal/social conservative. I believe the fiscal part will be addressed soon - with or without Trump. We're going to need Trump in the WH to address the lawless nature of leftist BS that has stricken our nation, as well as, handle all of these conflicts that have broken out overseas. He's the best man for the job...right now.

Trump didn't "handle" anything from the left while in office, WITH power. He got bent over at every turn. Now, if he won, he'd have no power, zero friends and still lack leadership skills. He's actually the worst man for the job. You don't make things better, as a conservative, by going further and further left, whether that's Trump or Haley. She's not the right person, either.
