So as we see in this particular case, much of McDonald's price increases were because they thought they could get away with it, and have been up until now, rather than any outside pressure for them to raise their prices. They did it because of pure greed.

Darien, Connecticut is a very affluent town in Fairfield County. Think of University Park in Dallas. Plus, the cost of living in Connecticut is very high.

If only they had sold two more hash browns.

Because these kind of price increases (whether inflationary or greed-driven) have not reached the grocery aisles. Yeah, that's gonna solve the problem.

I was on the run today and stopped at subway and they wanted 10 bucks for a footlong chicken sandwich so I turned around and walked out.

The sausage biscuit with hash brown is now $2.50 but still the best drive through breakfast value imo

Haven't been to a grocery store recently I see.

Bought a bag of chicken quarters, fresh brussel sprouts and sack of russet potatoes for almost $40 yesterday.

That's a family supper with leftovers. Prices are freaking nuts!

Two taquitos and a drink at Whataburger is over $10 now. It wasn't that long ago it was about $7.

At the mom and pop Mexican restaurant I can get three of the same breakfast tacos for $5, and the service is way better.

Corporate America may be bumping up against the limit of its power to keep raising prices as consumers in some markets cry uncle.

At McDonald's, which has repeatedly boasted about its ability to raise menu prices without denting sales, executives are finally acknowledging that customers need a break.

On Monday, as the burger chain reported weaker-than-expected sales at its US stores, CEO Chris Kempczinski addressed McDonald's "affordability" problem, and indicated the chain would cut prices on some menu items.

In a statement to CNN, McDonald's declined to comment on specific price cuts but reiterated its commitment to providing affordable options to consumers.

While inflation has slowed significantly, prices for everyday necessities remain high, and people are getting fed up. McDonald's has become a regular target for social media users complaining about prices. Viral stories lamenting the cost of a Big Mac meal particularly the $18 ones at a widely maligned Darien, Connecticut, location off I-95 have become a TikTok genre unto themselves.

On TikTok, it's a common refrain for McDonald's customers to say the company has gone too far, charging more than $3 for a single hash brown in some locations.

"Who told y'all y'all was that good to be charging that much for your food?" quips one user in a TikTok video titled "McDonald's has gotten too cocky."

Other popular videos call out the audacity of a medium French fry costing roughly as much as a Filet-o-Fish.

The problem with having a service based economy (aka -Consumer Economy) is when things slow down there's nothing left to sustain the growth needed to service debts.

If you haven't figured it out by now, we are running in a car going 100mph without brakes with a giant brick wall straight ahead.......

Especially when the service is an angry teen or middle aged black woman that is mad you're even in the restaurant.

We are a busy family and with schedules being what they are we eat fast food about 3 times a week. Went to Whataburger and for 3 meals it was $32. $28-35 is pretty typical for us eating "fast food". I always like to remind the other two that we could have had steak, baked potato, and a side for that price or less (cooked at home). It is insane what we pay for "fast food', but sometimes it is a necessary evil.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

More often than not the people making these claims are actually paying for their food to be delivered and they're under the impression that the delivery fee and tip are the only things being charged to them for that service, not realizing that their food is actually being marked up 20+% as well. If you order a double Big Mac delivered they'll charge you 12.29 for the meal, if pickup it's 10.09. That's 22% more that most people don't realize they're paying.

3 potatoes (2 lbs) $2.25. 8 Tbsp butter is $1.20. Assume you got salt & pepper and a fry pan. Oil would be cheaper.

assuming only 1.5 lbs gets turned into hash browns that's 680 g. McD hash brown is 53g. That's 12.8 McD hash browns.

An entire cast iron pan of hash browns - < $3.50 or $0.27 per equivalent hash brown.

McDonald's main goal this year is "affordability". Guess that initiative isn't off to a great start. Yeah a lot of the price increases have been because of greed or " just because they can". The last few years General Mills has been celebrating record breaking profits. We don't have a surplus of children in this country eating more cereal it's just the same cereal marked way way up.

This is what happens when you push for $20 an hour at fast food joints.

EVERY business is about profit, now on is in business to provide food at no profit except the government.

Legislate higher wages and your cost will just go up and you will be in the same spot after the market correction.
The answer and it is coming is computer/AI servers and cooks. Then you don't have to worry about jobs but you will get cheaper food!

Like someone said above, you can get a whole 20 pack of patties at heb for $6.50.

With exceptions for traveling, I have basically sworn off fast food because the cost is outrageous. Or get the sandwich but no fry or soda.

Not to mention, if the person who is making your food was in your own kitchen you would throw them out. Behind a wall, totally cool who makes your food.

Get grandma to knit one of those covers for the handles and bring the cast iron with ya.

Cast iron will deflect gun shots and you can also hit muggers or car jackers with it.

Warning: cast iron will not stop bullets, even small calibers

We were in Crescent City, CA a couple of weeks ago and grabbed McDonald's breakfast on our way out of town.

Wife and daughter got breakfast meals, son got a Fufu coffee drink, I got a sausage biscuit. It was $32 and they even still put cheese on my wife's sandwich though she requested no cheese, the deletion was confirmed on the screen and receipt but it was still there.

My prices have gone up simply because of price increases.

Over 80 dollars a case for tomatoes?

And I pay above minimum wage (12.30).

This isn't just greed, but wanting to keep the doors open. I can't go back to 6.99 taco plates.

With the increasing prices of restaurant meals, I'm getting pickier and pickier about where I'll go eat.

There is a restaurant next door to my office. As things stand now, I don't even want to go in there any more. Their food just gets worse and worse and worse.

It isn't the federal government @ $7.25/hr.

It's states like:

Washington ($16.28), California ($16.00 w/ fast food going to $20 in April), New York ($16.00), Connecticut ($15.69), New Jersey ($15.13), Colorado ($14.42), Arizona ($14.35), Massachusetts and Maryland ($15.00), Oregon ($14.20), Maine ($14.15) and Illinois / Rhode Island ($14.00). Washington DC is @ $17.00 !

This is why government are idiots with no basic economic education. Min wage is market driven however the government can artificially push the wage. This only increase costs across the board which in turn increases all costs thereby raising prices. So back to square one with affordability.

Hell let's just make the minimum wage $100 you can say look at all the money I have! Then buy the $200 hamburger and say we need to raise the minimum wage I can't afford to eat!
