Somebody talked about her first name and I said she chose to change it if she's getting upset about that now it's on her. If she's implying, she had to because people are racist. That's on her. The last few decades people quit changing their names like they used to. That's fine if it's a nickname.

yeah it's ones that haven't received a lot of sunlight that I'm referring to. The little white lies that pile up over time that just get absorbed into the collective subconscious because they feed our preconceived notions and expectations.

I heard her middle/nick name which she goes by.

Just for the record, I have no problem with Nikki Haley being of Indian descent. I think that's great. We're all Americans. And if she went by Nikki, her whole life that's great. I personally think her real first name Nimarata is prettier. Apparently she has gone by Nikki her whole life and had not changed it professionally.

I read an article about her when she was ambassador, because I knew very little about her and that's when I found out her full name and her heritage. Didn't care then don't care now good for her. I had assumed she was white because she looks white. But that's irrelevant.

I went by a nickname (shorter version of my name) up until after college, and then went by my full name. I understand, because my family shortened mine. Anyone that knows me from college before calls me one thing and those that I've met since then called me another. Whatever works for them.

My brother also goes by his middle name, never went by his first name but legally that's what it is. Usually when you hear someone say the name Nimarata, then, Nikki, you think it's a nickname, not a middle name.

Like Jack being another nickname for John. They're actually two different names.

Usually you'll see it Nimarata "Nikki" Haley. It wasn't necessarily clear that she had that name as a middle name. My dad had initials, but went by a nickname and anytime his name was in print it would have quotes around the nickname he went by which had nothing to do with his initials.

She can call herself whatever she wants. That isn't even what I was talking about. This thread was on the name being an issue and it isn't. I happen to mention that I thought she was white until a few years. and apparently shortened her name, and then this whole thing exploded.
