Memorial High in Spring Branch this week - AP English (10th grade) teacher decided it was time to assign the kids a persuasive paper in support of the woke movement.

This is the list of subjects she instructed the kids to research and site in their papers, being sure to expose them to dozens of these woke authors and not-so-subtly trying to shape these 15 year olds views.

One student called her out by asking if he could also site the Bible and he response was "no fiction sources".

I post this more as a PSA that if you don't think your current kids are being attacked by this just because they are in Texas, you are wrong. And Speong Branch was generally thought of as one of the least woke districts remaining in this city.

I'd be in the principal's office with a news crew and then ad the Super's office later that day. I'm raising my kids to recognize this evil and call it out.

That teacher shouldn't be in the classroom regardless. In AP Lang, you're supposed to be able to be given the topic, and argue pro/con/neutral. Forcing students to pick one side and argue that point, no matter what it is, isn't how this works.

And given how competitive and focused the kids in AP generally are, the vast majority of them won't dare challenge her or make waves.

That school currently has a 30-way tie for the valedictorian spot, meaning they took every advanced credit class and have a perfect record. Even a B in this class could knock them out of the Top 10% and effect their college plans.

The point of the assignment is to have the kids type these words into Google so that all future content and ads on their accounts/computer will now be tailored towards woke gender ideology.

I'd do gender stereotypes and how reacting to a stereotype could lead to a tomboy getting a trans operation.

If no fiction sources are allowed, then that disallows every source this teacher is pushing.

Our salutatorian finished second because they allowed another student to tax health pass/fail. The valedictorian beat him because health was only given as a non-ap class so if you remove that regular a he wins. It was a huge scandal and shouldn't have happened.

Somewhat similar, a friend of mine's daughter would be the Valedictorian of her school, but a few people took regular classes instead of AP classes, and somehow, they could get a higher GPA grade point than an AP Class. Something like 6.5 versus 6.0.

How stupid is that?

I think she's going to end up somewhere between 3-5, so she's still auto-admit to A&M, but it really sucks for her that she didn't work the system, worked harder, and got punished for it.

This teacher will be an administrator/principal in no time.

Dang it, I was just complaining about the cost of private school the other day.

They should be. This crap needs to stop. Indoctrination is NOT the role of educators....it's to teach critical thinking skills.

I can't even imagine the paper 16 year old me would have turned in for this assignment. It probably would have resulted in an F and/or detention.

No kidding. Most of these terms weren't even in the public lexicon when I was sixteen. I would have just WTF'd that paper.

There are other options. Charter schools (still "public" but not beholden to the local ISD).
Anyone with an internet connection can homeschool. Yes, it's a sacrifice. Yes, you may have to downsize or drive a beat up car or leave below your means.
It's not easy. But it's worth it.

Anyone else miss the days when teachers *****ed about not wanting to be your child's babysitter?

This would have been like my Trig quizzes at A&M when I was a freshman. I turned some of them in blank because I had no f'ing clue what to do. My first Q drop.

Unfortunately, these kids can't Q drop.

Even though it is Memorial HS, and not some inner city HISD school with disconnected parents, I bet you are right. They might have a talk with this freak, but may just do nothing. We'll see. But this is the reddest area of Spring Branch.

I'm guessing you don't really know how hard it is for the average American financially.

My guess is this teacher did this on purpose to pick a fight with the SB school board which is not woke at all.
