And if he lives out in Canyon West and works in the city, he's got a long commute. Mine was 54 miles each way and I lived close to there.

I could see an EV being reasonable for that drive. Saves a good chunk of $$$ on the commute. Hell, I filled up my Jeep 2.5 times a week on my commute - it was NOT a good choice for that drive.

Winner winner chicken dinner

Previous vehicle was a BMW X3M. It was fun to drive, great performance, decent size in a smaller package. But it was expensive to fuel and maintain.

The Y performance checked all the boxes of the BMW for about the same upfront price and much cheaper to own.

So for me, in my situation it was a perfect fit. Especially since we still had an ICE truck. I readily admit EV's don't work for a lot of people. But some seem ridiculous in saying they aren't a fit for anyone.

If you charge at home and have a sub 100 mile round trip commute why do you need a weather alternative?
Dual use of "Rainy day." Both literal (in this case heavy freeze - especially for those without a heated garage) or alternative scenarios like > 100 mile trips, grid disruptions, collision repair/recall/battery replacement, etc)

You don't need a heated garage for level 2 charging.

If you have a greater than 100 mile trip it's not right for you and should get an ICE. Hence, my question of under 100 miles.

Collision/recall/battery replacement has nothing to do with the weather question.

I believe most here agree everyone has different needs in vehicle selection. And that's fine.

But it's the incessant Tesla Dumbassery justification for every issue discussed. Instead of saying yes that could be an issue for them, it's replied in 3 minutes with "not me.. My tesla is perfect and my tesla decision best not be challenged" is what prolongs these threads. This psyche and behavior just scream a sort of inferiority complex.

I never need to continuously defend why I drive prius, minivan and my other cars. And so should anyone.

Get over it and move on!

So now EVs are not right for you unless you drive less than 100 miles per trip. Thank you for finally admitting that EVs are not practical or competitive by most metrics compared to ICE cars. Too cold, too hot, pulling a load, batteries won't hold a charge, etc ... , they are a government subsidized technology that is in so many ways inferior to the conventional, time tested ICE technology. They are pushed on the public by a government that is using the boogey man of climate change to scare/fool people into believing they are doing the planet good by purchasing them. It is interesting - and telling - watching people go to the mat trying to defend it so vigorously.

As I said in an earlier post - Caveat Emptor.

When have I said otherwise? I've always been consistent in saying that if you regularly take long trips and can't charge at home then an EV isn't right for you.

In fact just about every EV owner here has said that. Yet it's ignored.

All I know is, if I have an unexpected emergency that I have to strike out across the state at night (which I have), give me an ICE vehicle. That's what makes a necessity for me.

Still. Not a single answer on where is all the damn electricity to " home charge" all these damn things going to come from?

My neighbor rancher is a regional director for our electric Co-Op. He made a good point …..,
He said if the US and the Libs get what they want and every household has to eventually be forced to have an EV and "home charger" . It will be the same equivalent as every household adding a 50 Amp 220v circuit for a 200 amp stick welder and welding with it 8 hours a day.
He said our current electric infrastructure and grids will not come close to handling it.
This from a guy who has been the electrical utility supply business for 40 years.
So I ask for a third time …. Where in the heck is all this electricity going to come from?
Then add to that the go green idiot's want to make all stoves, ovens, dryers, etc all electric.
Our country is toast. And the toast will be made by electricity.

For a complete shift to EV's it isn't there. But there is enough capacity for quite a few more since your typical commuter would only charge at night during off peak hours once or twice a week

People, especially young people, are just completely ignorant on the ways of the world. If social media tells them it's a good idea, it's a good idea.

I have a super-intelligent nephew and now-niece who are under 30 and both work for our federal government in DC. A couple of years ago, they had a wedding shower in rural Iowa where my in-laws are from (his grandparents). They flew into Omaha, NE and rented an electric car. They made it 50 miles from the airport and ran out of charge, resulting in a call to Dad to come pick them up.

Dad said, "What in the hell were you thinking?! Why would you rent an electric car? Where in the hell would you charge it in farm country?!"

The 'last mile' costs to support the infrastructure delivering electricity to replace ICE vehicles with Plug in electrics is around $4K-7K per house, I have read.

At least they weren't spontaneously combusting.
Just another reason that, for now, Hybrids are the way to go.

Sheet like this happens, and you've got a hybrid, and you don't even think about it; you just go on driving like nothing happened. The worst case scenario for the hybrid driver is that they'll have to go to the gas pump a day sooner .; and considering that they'll be going, maybe once ever couple of months, they won't even care.

Humanoids is part of Tsla as is their energy storage/software FSD.

These threads always astounds me how people hate Tsla so much. We all know the pros/cons of EVs, its up to the buyer to decide. If the pros/cons ratio shows the best option for transport, then buy an EV. If not, buy something else. Seems so simple.

Just like a boat. Its a waste of money, but its worth it to me so I buy it. I don't need someone come to me and explain why I should never buy a boat.

Just crazy how obsessed people are with EVS.
agreed

so if the humanoids thing works out (and we are destroyed)

but at least the stock price of Tesla has risen?!

or will it not effect the TSLA stock price?

I have come to the realization that many who hates Evs /Tsla are having their livelihood affected be it gas/oil, dealerships, oem big 3 workers, gas station owners.

Just crazy the anger/hate and gotcha statements

We have 2 cars at home. One ice and once EV. Every car going forward for my kids will be EVs if they live @home bc we have an ice for long trips. Kids don't need to drive very far away.

I've will always be more important if we had to choose to have just one car but after that there is no benefit to my family.

But the gotcha is crazy
1. Look at the dead freezing cars - your fault for not driving ur ice car
2. Range sucks - your fault for not understanding range/charging
3. Can't tow - your fault for buying it
4. Electricty grid can't handle - oh well. Not my problem. Grid works great now. There are lots of things we have that infrastructure can't handle. Just look at ercot. If it doesn't work, back to all ice
5. Subsidies - strawman who brings this up. Gov subsidies everything including outright bailouts Detroit 3. But I guess this was ok. How about the recent large low interest loans. How about all the other industries being subsidized. He'll, gov subsidize low income housing/electricity. Where is the outrage?

I don't respond to most of these gotchas bc it's trolling.

There is so much stuff I "waste" money on and it's not my
Job to defend how I spend my $$$. And it should not be anyone's job telling me how I spend my $$$.

If u are so bothered that evs are getting subsidized OR government are making you buy evs, then go vote/protest. Why do u care or get offended that I am buying something that is available? Cigarettes has a greater cost on society but I'm not going to tell an adult that they are ruining my life.

I just spent $100pp on a buffet and my 11 yr old essentially ate bread. So what, don't tell me what I should and should not do.
Let me waste my money.

But it's ok for the government to use my dollars to support your EV? Gotcha.
And I don't make my living anyway associated with oil or gas, transportation or supply.
You wanna buy one? Fine with me. Just don't ask me and other taxpayers to pick up the tab so you can have one.

And you and others have still not answered the question as to where all that electricity is going to come from. Yep we will all be paying more for that change too… someone has to pay for the added production, construction of power infrastructure, etc. So that you can have your subsidized EV.
EV owners should have to pay electricity tax the same as fuel tax….. I'm sure that will be coming as you do use the same roads right?

Good Lord, governments have been subsidizing emerging technologies for thousands of years. The infrastructure for your ICE came from government subsidy, too. And your great-great grandpappy was probably complaining about it back then, too.

Medaggie bought his Tesla around the same time I did so neither of us got a tax credit. I have a GM vehicle who received a larger hand out than Tesla but something tells me you wouldn't have the same animosity for a GM owner that you do with Tesla owners.

Regarding the electric, it's a product. If I want to use or buy more of it I will pay for more of it. Just like if someone buys a 5,000SF home instead of a 2,000SF and is okay with paying more to heat and cool it. Would you charge them an "electric tax" just because of their increased electric demand? Where do you draw the line who gets to use unnecessary power in your society?

I don't have an answer on how it's going to happen. I'm sure when gas cars were created, there were not enough gas stations. It's chicken and egg. No one spends money building something with hope EVs dominate. But as EV penetration increased more chargers/grid will increase.

Silly to ask how it will be supported before we even know if evs will dominate.

The gov is subsidizing chips, does that mean we should get mad and not buy chips made in the US?

But to get mad that the gov subsidize a singular industry is a strawman argument. U pay for a lot of stuff that's gov subsidized. Like most farms are heavily subsidized so be dumb for me to question you going to HeB

Yep. Has served us well to never have a plan going forward. At the end of the day you have your EV that taxpayers helped you save around 7-8K on and that taxpayers are footing the bill on all the infrastructure as well. You are happy with your purchase. ………….,,… Do you have any idea on what your battery pack cost if it fails out of warranty? Course not. Why worry about it… maybe the taxpayers will buy you new batteries as well. Can't let these things fail….. after all we have to much invested in them.

You watch to much TV about what you think you know about farm or ranch subsidies for most of us.
