Did see a funny idea the other day for dealing with porch pirates. Keep your Amazon and UPS boxes and fill them with old crap you were going to throw out or drop at Goodwill anyway. Reseal boxes, leave on porch. Enjoy.

A front porch is an area within plain view of publicly accessible areas (like the street or sidewalk), so at least per US laws there is no expectation of privacy. Perhaps a better strategy for porch pirates, at least in the US, is to steal items from areas out of public view and maintain your privacy. Do it in areas where no one really sees what happens, if you know what I mean.

I remember when small businesses would tack up returned, hot checks for every one to see. That would be pretty embarrassing in a small town.

Continue showing thieves online and add to that video of The Sret du Qubec aiding and abetting criminals.

I guess my suggestion that ring doorbell start an advertising campaign in local supermarkets and stores is a no go.

My suggestion was install tv monitors in stores with video loops of criminal activity(ie: porch pirates thieves) with a call in number to report identities.

Note: changed pirates to thieves as the word pirate seems to glorify these miscreants.

The Montreal cops are just pissed that they are being exposed as incompetent and can't or don't want to be bothered with attacking the problem. They're not remotely worried about some porch pirate's privacy being violated (ridiculous), they don't want the public constantly reminded that they're not doing their job.

"People are basically good, it's those who impose arborary rules of right and wrong on good people who are bad"

ETA: I would not be a continual victim to these a-holes as I would solve the problem somehow. Build a lockbox of some kind or come up with a common delivery point for folks where you could make a little money while you're at it. Something.

The logical solution is of course have a trip wire of some kind tied to a buckshot-filled shotgun , and a large warning sign, but I guess that's out.

My simplified liberal thought process: "If it benefits me and those like me, then I will allow it"
