Expect to see constant headlines throughout 2024 leading up to the election about the economy "heading in the right direction" and "surpassing expectations", as the media tries to gaslight everyone that they aren't actually paying 50% more for groceries, gas, rent, etc.

US added 216,000 jobs in December, blowing past expectations | The Hill

Headlines like these will be all 95% of the voting public sees. They won't bother to read several parargraphs in where you find the real info:
Quote:

Even so, there were significant downward revisions of past jobs gains. November's initially reported gain of 150,000 was revised down to 105,000, and an October gain of 199,000 jobs was revised down to 173,000.

"Overall, solid headline numbers, but some of the dynamics under the hood are more worrying," Martha Gimbel, a research scholar at Yale Law School who recently left the White House Council of Economic Advisers, wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. She pointed to the downward revisions as part of this.

All part of a coordinated effort by the media to prop up Biden (or whomever the D candidate will be).

It started a few months ago, with liberal economic "journalists" literally telling their readers they simply didn't understand how great the economy is doing and its the consumer's fault that prices haven't dropped.

I remember that many online articles and news conglomeration sites turned off the ability for readers to comment during the COVID and 2020 election cycle. I attributed it to the fact that the majority of comments were readers pushing back against the b.s. those articles were spouting. I fully expect that to happen again in the 6 months or so leading up to the election. We can't have the plebs voicing their opinions out loud and potentially threatening the government narrative.

There are posters on this very board who are perpetuating the administration and media narrative about the economy 'trending up' since last year. Yet they can't seem to find any real examples of economic improvement. They just echo the talking points that are told to them.

I would hope a lot of working voters who continue seeing costs increase aren't buying the BS.

And I think gas prices are going to skyrocket this summer. No matter how much they say 'All is well' with the economy, I don't think they'll be able to hide the truth as the year goes on.

Gas prices are cheaper and prices of some groceries, particular chips and eggs, are back to where they were before they sky rocketed a couple of years ago. Seeing more coupons for things people actually eat as well.

That being said, the drop in some groceries may be just as tied to the increasing amount of people getting on Ozempic and don't eat anywhere near as much as before, as it has to do with anything the administration has done. And honestly, I don't see that the administration has done anything.

by many economic indicators, the economy is strong:
-unemployment at near record lows
-wage growth outpacing inflation since march 2023
-all time high domestic oil production
-stock market near all time highs
-inflation rates cooled off significantly compared to summer 2022 highs
-strong gdp growth over the last year
-fed signaling rate cuts next year
-no recession, save for maybe 2 quarters in 2022

This.
And the folks will buy it.

People were laid off at my company, run by a bunch of clearly liberal executives, who've pointed out that the economic situation is not great (for 3 quarters now).
And yet, the folks were surprised when there were layoffs, because they read everyday that the economy is great.
Do they think the economy is bad now? No. They blame Big Corporations and capitalism.

Always blaming the "MSM" for something you don't like won't cut it. I read MarketWatch most days, and they report on what ECONOMISTS say. Now if you want to say that most economists are "in on the lies", go for it. I don't know where you get more reliable information, but going to the grocery store and complaining about the price that manufacturers and retailers charge isn't about "the economy". They want to keep their profits as high as possible, so don't look for them to rush to lower their prices. Meanwhile, the stock market is great, people still are buying big ticket items like cars, and the unemployment rate is low. Gas is also below $3 in most of the country. If you still want to be a negative Nancy about the economy, go for it.

Well, you know, you can say "going to the grocery store and complaining about the price that manufacturers and retailers charge isn't about "the economy" all you want smart guy. But for most americans who don't give a **** about marketwatch paying the grocery bill and all the other bills is their economy.

My last grocery bill was over $500. I've never had a bill that big before and you can't get out of even a ****ty restaruant lile Chili's for under $130.

This is the kind of smug snottiness that I love about liberals. Duh. Don't you read MarketWatch? They say the economy is good and the COVID vaccine is awesome.

Ever notice how oftentimes the goaltenders' statistics are cherry picked and placed in tight time windows, ala one I just made up:
Quote:

Fans, for a 4-minute span in the 3rd quarter, the Ags outscored the competition 7-0.

Don't ask about the rest of the quarter, the game, or the season.

I live in a 55+ community so I spend a lot of time with a group of people you would think are done working. It's astounding the number of my friends who are looking for some type of employment because the Biden disaster has made living on a fixed income almost impossible.

Even though I'm 67 I'm still working and spend a lot of my time reviewing credit reports so I think I have a pretty good handle on the real economy and it's not good. People are drowning in debt, a lot of it to buy groceries and necessities.

The country is being invaded by a foreign enemy and the guy running an actual criminal enterprise from the White House is a partner with the human trafficking and drug cartels.

You can bury your head in the sand and pretend it's not happening but it is. I fully expect we'll get 4 years of full democrat control after November regardless the legitimate outcome of the election. The country I was fortunate enough to grow up and live in most of my life will be gone. The destruction of this country has been intentional.

The only group with a higher labor participation rate from 20 years ago is those 55+. Those 54 and younger have seen a decline in the participation rate. That's per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

I read Marketwatch every day and they are a glorified yahoo.
You read the "economists" providing their opinion, and are impressed. Doesn't surprise me. Democrats have a fondness for authority, but the rest of us know that an appeal to authority is a logical fallacy.

I look at the actual companies reporting results. Outside of few sectors (Tech related to AI, Defense), most other companies are not reporting good results, or see significant headwinds.

Tech has been hammered with layoffs, and Pharma has frozen hiring for over a year. Consulting companies are deferring new hires. China recession is affecting a whole lot of companies.

There really isn't anything good on the horizon. But keep listening to those yahoo economists who are bought and paid off by the administration. Wouldn't surprise me if most of them are DEI hires, and if there's one thing we know about DEI hires is that they don't lie.

i don't doubt that's what you see, available data i can find suggests consumer debt in aggregate is rising post-pandemic but still on the general trajectory it's been on since the GFC.

yes, people needing to work later into their careers to comfortably retire has been a bad trend for a couple decades now. silver lining, labor participation has been mostly stagnant for the 55+ age group since the GFC. delayed adolescence has people in their early 20s entering the workforce later. teen employment has all but collapsed.

I pulled the over 55 participation rate since you seem to love stats. What I see in the real world is hopelessness and despair like I've never seen in my life. The security of the country has been destroyed intentionally by your guy. We're engaged in 2 wars one of which we have no business in whatsoever. Taxpayers are on the hook to pay the travel costs for a drug addict, tax cheat, gun felon who flies on AF1. What an F'd up country Joe Biden has turned this into.
