That country voted for this. Josephine County is one of a few rural counties that was reliant upon timber dollars. It's a logging county. The spotted owl being listed as endangered killed their economy. It wrecked the entire economy of rural Oregon. That county can't afford to pay for that much law enforcement anymore and the residents voted against a tax hike to cover the cost of additional deputies. My county went from being one of the richest in the state from logging to one of the poorest due to that owl.

Surely there is a lawsuit in here somewhere. That's ridiculous

Nope! Now they've decided that the barred owl is encroaching on the spotted owls territory. The solution, they've decided, is to kill about 15k barred owls over the next several years to prevent the spotted owls from bring crowded into extinction.

This is where the rubber meets the road, liberals. When the bad guy is at your door the police are only minutes away. Or apparently now they may ask you to call back tomorrow. In this situation you're are the only person that can save your life. The police will eventually get there to ID the body whether that be yours or the bad guys but only you get to decide which one. Get a gun. Preferably an AR and learn how to use it in the dark. With a timer running so you're used to doing it under duress. Seconds matter and that's not the time to try and remember what someone else told you about how the gun you're holding works.

Not denying her need for a gun here. It would have been a crystal-clear case of the Castle doctrine.

However, there is much more at play here. A county should not rely on federal funding to pay the salary of 23 of its 29 law enforcement officers.

And quite frankly I thought that video was completely fake at first. It takes what I presume is the actual 911 call and combines it with random video taken from the dashcam of someone driving in a completely different state.

I grew up with firearms but a few years ago I dove head first into competitive shooting. USPSA and 3Gun. My opinions about carrying have changed slightly. After spending a lot of time around every level of shooter from absolute masters to worse than beginners there are some people that shouldn't own a gun.

With all that said most women would benefit from carrying. But if they don't take the time to practice regularly and become unconsciously competent with the pistol they aren't going to get what they could out of ownership. Or know if pistols are something they are cut out to own. That goes for men just as much as it does women.

This happened in 2012. He pled guilty and was sentenced to one hundred months in prison in 2013.

They should fund a program, which teaches spotted owls how to fly.

Then they could fly to an area without so many barred owls.

I feel terrible for that caller.

Not a lawyer but I've read that the courts have been consistent in ruling that the police don't have an obligation to protect you. Relying on them to do so has never been a good plan but in 2024 America it's never been a worse idea than it is now.

I learned the hard way that the police have no obligation to respond. In response we passed the CLEAR Alert legislation to lower the activation energy to get police to respond or at least engage the public.
