What he means is they didn't leave them on purpose, they just forgot about them. Kind of like when you leave your favorite koozie at your buddies house after a night of drinking.

Benefit of the doubt is we didn't JUST leave them. We left them in the hands of the Afghan army who we were apparently stupid enough to think could keep them.

We did not leave weapons behind...

We gave weapons to the Afghan National Security Forces...who basically turned tail and collapsed as soon as it got hard.

Well that took about 10 seconds to disprove.

Weapons the US left in Afghanistan

Quote:

After the military exit in the summer of 2021, SIGAR quoted a Taliban official as saying, "The group took possession of more than 300,000 light arms, 26,000 heavy weapons, and about 61,000 military vehicles." That's on top of what they already had.

Again...those were ANSF assets.

And we left them. Matters not who the heck they were left for. Also we had a few thousand soldiers left in Afghanistan, was all their equipment, arms, combat vehicles flown out as President Biden's Administration fled under cover of darkness while not notifying the Afghanistan government nor military?
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

Ok, but we left in a way that allowed them to be taken and they were still assets we gave them. That's shining a turd.

Again... That is a crap ton of weapons for a very small force. We LEFT a lot of weapons as we high tailed out!

True, but a technically. We bought them, we took them there. We have them to a corrupt, unaccountable rabble more often than not, and as things were collapsing, we didn't ensure they weren't left behind once their national army ran away or even switched sides. We basically turned them over to the Taliban instead of gathering up or destroying in place as much as we could still in arsenals in preparation for the withdrawal once the national army was obviously a fictional force. We withdrew too hastily.

The retrograde was always going to be a disaster, unless you wanted us to be there in perpetuity.

We gave them weapons, material, equipment to fight the muj...there's no easy way of getting them back. It's not like we're going to say to the ANSF in the middle of a fight:

"Oh, before you quit fighting, can you come back to KAIA so we can make your equipment unusable?"

Trump made the right call for us to pull out and while I have issues with how the Biden admin handled the retrograde, that it ended up this way isnt shocking to anyone that spent a min on the ground with the ANSF.

And stay there for how long?

What signs should we have been looking for that they were fixing themselves?

Had we seen any sign that they were fixing themselves?

Does Afghanistan really matter in comparison to our other global national security issues (China)?

Don't get yourself wrapped up in sunk cost...at somepoint we had to cut bait.

IMHO, we should have done it five years earlier.

And we left them for the Taliban. And made no attempt to destroy them.

And yet, this administration and its voters are willing to disarm law abiding Americans at every given opportunity. There is not much of a difference between liberals and the Taliban.

What grosses me out is that the fall was obvious for a good while. Plenty of time to get stuff like night vision goggles out of there. Someday, American troops are going to get killed at night with a terrorist with one of our NVGs, and that is going to be 100% on idiots like Biden and Milley.

It wasn't that we left. It is that it was done in a hasty rush without a good plan. We would have left some equipment because some bases and arsenals in remote areas were overrun or surrendered towards the end. Why we did not arrange security or destruction of others while we still could is an issue.

I guess the hope was weapons "way over there" can't easily hurt us once we leave.

Really?

By your logic, if you give your poor friend an old car, he gets beat up and the car stolen, it's your fault for having given him the car in the first place?

The weapons we gave them are the less problematic ones. I mean Jesus, those assets are pain to maintain even with contractor support.

But the Biden Admin stuck the deadline the Trump Admin agreed to…

We had shut down so many of our bases in the periphery in the previous years and consolidated everything in BAF or KAIA.

Once the ANSF began collapsing it was just a matter of time.

A better analogy is watching your friend get his ass kicked by a bully, and then while he is knocked out, you place a gun on his chest, that the bully immediately picks up and starts shooting people with it.
