Oh, you know it happened. Let's just hope it got recorded again.

Oh, you know folks got cussed out for everything they were worth today. Would LOVE to have leaked audio again.

It will be interesting to see what her next "job" will be.

I've always put her in the same category as Al Sharpton.

Somehow, she'll find someone to pay her.

People need to understand what is possible and be happy with the best result that is actually possible under the circumstances. SJL losing to virtually anybody is the best thing. A Republican isn't going to win this position. Ever again. The city isn't going to annex anymore big blocks of conservative voters (Woodlands), so Houston will stay majority Democrat moving forward.

She's still in Congress. She didn't resign her seat

I figure she thought she could inherit Sly's grift and probably saw herself as heir apparent to the Houston Mayor seat.

This should be a big piece of humble pie for her to choke on.

So even when she loses a bid for a job because she's in Congress, she doesn't lose her current job. Must be nice. No wonder politicians never stop running for re-election; it's the best gig on the planet.

That's the beauty of a mid cycle election. You don't have to resign to run and you aren't in 2 elections at once.

If the mayoral race were next year she would have had to not run for Congress.

And Whitmire was in the same position. He was the sitting TX State Senator. He will have to resign that position now.

There's also the "Lyndon Law", which allows a Texas politician to appear on the ballot as president or vice-president while still remaining on the ballot for senator or congressman. It didn't come into play here as already pointed out it was a mid-cycle election.

Probably to the GOP's advantage to have her there. It's a gerrymandered district that is only going to elect a D, as a single representative she can't do too much damage, and she makes for a good Democratic ambassador every time she sticks her foot in her mouth.

As a State Senator Whitmire at least understand the relationship the city and the state have together. The City is a political subdivision of the state, and it's power/authority is delivered from state law.

SJL was taking about federal grants, partnerships, courting federal dollars. She would have the city married to DC.

The state is already setup to work with ALL cities and the programs are in place. Whitmire at least knows this.
It's he competent? Time will tell. She woulda been a disaster.
