This you?

Are you serious? Boomers fought some actual Chinese and their sometime fraternal socialist brethren in Vietnam. Boomers warned of Chinese imperialism and military growth which our political and corporate classes ignored.
You want to blame someone for China? Blame corporate America and their Democrat and GOP allies. Plus the biggest buyers of I-phones: millennials and Gen Xers.

China has concentration camps for Uyghurs that have been accused of being used to supply organs for Chinese people. Or maybe you believe keeping social scorecards on all Chinese citizens so the government may deny travel or censor those with low scores.
No one is advocating completely uncontrolled market capitalism so your argument is bad debating tactic and should be considered a derail.

But their 401ks went up. Who needs honor and values when your 401k goes up. Don't worry though, millennials are going to clean up their mess like changing their diapers. It's all happened before.

And Boomers also swooned over the Bush dynasty, ushering in globalism, killing industry jobs and bolstered China. Yes, it is the boomers fault. Y'all also lost Vietnam.

Yes all boomers are the same. Hate em all. They think the same, buy the same things, invest in the same things, blah blah. Using your ill-logic white are all the same, blacks are the same, woman are the same, Xers, mills, Gen Y, etc all the same.

Wow think man. It would be the first time ever. Your hateful, stereotyping garbage gets old

Did you forget "greed is good"?
Jack(ass) Welch type CEOs have ruined their companies long term to enrich themselves and many people sniffed their nethers.

I think you missed the sarcasm. This is what the unmitigated pursuit of profit under capitalism gets you. A lot of those complaining about companies doing business in and with China are the same ones complaining when businesses pursue any kind of corporate activism. They start throwing around words like "fiduciary duty" and "shareholder returns." Well, it's really hard to have it every way. Either companies exist solely to make a profit and return it to their shareholders, or they exist to make a profit among a lot of other subjective things that not everyone is going to agree with. They either exist to make money, or they exist to be good corporate citizens while making money. It can't be both.

That is not an advocation for anything, but merely a critique of a system where profit is the sole motivator. In reality, it shouldn't be.

Yeah. "[Insert Company Here] just needs to focus on business," and, "Businesses only exist to to make money," have never been said here...

And where did I say hate? All I'm saying is actions taken by a prior generation need to be amended to maintain the country's values and you get twisted, hard. Truth hurts I guess. No one said all boomers are the same. Talking about reading waaaay too much into something. I'm sure though that since it landed that hard on your head, you clearly voted for the Bush dynasty.

Before this gets derailed too far, how about you define what the American culture is or more importantly what the American culture was at the time of this country's founding?

Once you have that definition in place, everything becomes a lot clearer about the answer to your question about "whose ethics".

Business w/China has made many Americans rich regardless of politics. Even Trump gets paid $$$ from China via his properties.

All that should likely stop if running for office...but if you've been bringing in the $$ from doing business w/China before, I imagine that's a hard thing to stop.

Kind of sad we're 1-1/2 pages into this thread and nobody has suggested that it's tradition to applaud a world leader. Hell if I were at an event Biden spoke at I'd give polite applause.

The obvious aside China has been a critical part of the global supply chain for decades which is the entire lifespan of some of the companies represented here. It's now being widely reported that China is in the midst of economic collapse and a significant number of these companies are scrambling to figure out how to replace them as a manufacturing partner so having a chance to see things through Xi's eyes was probably a welcome opportunity for people whose livelihoods in part depend on a stable China.

Yep, I admit it. I don't like it! What to do?
In 1777 or 08 politicians sold out the patriots that fought the British. They didn't get their pay. Many had been gone from home for years There was no home to go back to. In 192? Gen Jack Pershing ordered MaCArthur to run out WW1 retirees out of the tent city in DC, several were killed. They wanted their back and combat pay. Politicians have been dumping on "We the People" from the beginning. For the greater good of their pocketbooks. Do we burn it all down? I don't know what the answer is.

You elect someone who is offering a clear way out of the madness that the administrative state has created. Vivek really is the light at the end of the dark tunnel. He is correct that we are living in a 1776 moment. We need revolutionary thought to right the ship.

Vivek? Ok. Can't get on board with that. I think feelings of revolutionary thought are amplified by social media in a way that hurts us Republicans, Libertarians, Moderate Democrats (real Dems) and reasonable Americans.

We fell behind with china militarily in some areas and we have made mistakes in long term foreign policy--got it. Presidential politics right now, imo, (and support of the current NDS) is weirdly similar to our position in football with the new hire. We don't need revolution; we need a leader that can navigate the current swamp, make positive changes and support our current direction economy building and defense of future threats. I would personally not be swayed by the 5-10% that are highly active on social media platforms.

There is a lot being done and many millions of Americans working hard that are not presidential puppets getting it done and working to reconcile some gaps. The revolutionary talk just silly imo. china has real problems internally.

Also, Senate and Congress is more important anyway.

We the People are a means to an end & largely always have been.
The reforms that could help fix the country such as term limits, won't be touched by our politicians because it's bad for (their) business.

I find your comparison faulty.
The people posting concerning businesses should keep out of politics generally are describing companies/corporations inserting politics into their advertising, products and services resulting in a significant loss of revenue. That was a company/corporate decision irrespective of government laws and regulations.

On the other hand the Chinese government has done acts against humanity in forcing Muslims into concentration camps based solely on their religion, and reports are they are harvesting organs. In addition the Chinese government is censoring, restricting travel, reducing job advancement based on social scoring.

Comparing these two actions is disingenuous, faulty and is based on no logic.
