I bet nobody who has posted on this thread drives a single cab XL trim truck.

You say you want the most basic truck, but it's not what you buy.

You're exactly right. They say they want basic but when push comes to shove, they won't buy it. We should poll former students on game day with season tickets and trucks and how many went basic with a single cab . I doubt most even buy an extended cab. It's the four doors or bust.
You can't find extended cabs anymore hell, do any manufacturers even make them these days?

Last time I was on a lot the only single cabs were the chassis trucks; every regular truck was a 4 door model.

Kind of hard to buy things that really aren't readily available.

You can, you just have to special order it, wait a few months, and get no "discounts"

I ordered the only two trucks I purchased new
Both times I had all discounts available at the time the truck was delivered and paperwork done.

Was that before or after COVID?

Long before. Last new one, and current driver, was in 2013.

Of course things can change, it just wouldn't make sense to change because if a person decides not to buy, they are only out their deposit and the truck just goes on to the lot with all incentives available to the next buyer.

It might have to do with the cost of a basic truck. For example XLT model trucks are now approximately $50K. I feel like if I'm paying $50K for a truck, it should at least come with leather seats. Paying a **** ton of money for a truck with a stripped down cheap ass interior is a hard sell as it should be.

I have to daily drive a truck for business reasons. Even older high mileage trucks have gotten ridiculously expensive and you don't know what kind of problems you are buying. If truly low cost no frills trucks were available, I'd consider buying one and then having second performance or luxury oriented vehicle that is actually enjoyable to drive. Truck prices now make it hard to afford a second vehicle and performance cars have gotten so expensive they are not affordable as second vehicles. So most of us are stuck driving a boring utility vehicle 100% of the time while manufacturers are dropping the cars we'd rather be buying due to lack of sales. That and/or they've turned them into expensive halo cars for the wealthy.

I bought a 2008 2 door 4x4 Chevy truck for something like $15k. Sticker was $17k, IIRC. It was one step above the W/T package - vinyl floors, manual 4wd shifter, cloth bench, and had power locks/windows but no cruise control. It was an awesome truck and met every one of my needs. I sold in 2011 because I had my first kid and needed something with a back seat. Once the kids are gone, I'd 100% buy another one.

That truck was what broke me of the "bigger and fancier is better" mindset. I got out of a crew cab diesel F250 4x4 FX4/Lariat when I bought that little Chevy. It was so easy to drive and park that I decided I'd never go "big" again.

I drive a 2017 Ram Lone Star edition 1/2T single cab shorty. It only seats 2 because it has the center console. MZ R said, "We won't be able to take anyone anywhere." I said, "Exactly". It's got less than 47K miles on it and runs like a scalded dog and gets 20 MPG on the hwy. Only thing it doesn't have is limited slip. I'm thinking about getting an aftermarket posi unit and some 3:73 gears to replace the 3:21's in it now.
