As are his days of playing with his kids.
you might be surprised. He might not do time if his lawyers can convince he had a temporary moment of insanity. not guilty by reason of insanity. may be spending time in a mental hospital and medicated silly

I don't care about his depression. F him, He tried to kill 85 people. Also, not surprising he's from California and from his X posts he's a democrat. Every democrat I fly with, which is rare, is a weirdo.

I will be very surprised if he does anything short of life in prison. The Feds don't screw around with these cases. Can you think of any example of someone threatening a commercial flight to this degree and didn't serve life?

But, it us crazy conservative that are terrorists and the greatest threat to a safe society.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

well it will be interesting.

sounds like the entire episode lasted a very short amount of time and then he was cooperative.

He could say he had an adverse reaction to benadryl. who knows, what his lawyers would concoct.

What I don't get is why this pilot would do this on a jump seat flight. If he is suicidal, it would have been easier to do it when he was in the pilot seat. Thank God he failed.

The even scarier thing is what if he HAD waited until he was the actual pilot? I wonder if there is more to this story like he was suspended and about to get fired, or something.

Weird. Jump seats are normally airline employees right?

Like a flight attendant or pilot in transit?
I think that air traffic controllers are encouraged to ride along occasionally so that they can observe the interactions with ATC from the pilots point of view.

based on some of his social media post in recent years I think he was headed for a breakdown

He looks like a booger eater. He won't have to worry about aviation labor issues anymore. What a knob.

The Kraken beat me to it, but basically FedEx flight engineer down on his luck decides to deadhead and crash the plane to get insurance money. Brings a guitar case of weapons onboard (to include a spear gun if I'm not mistaken) and attacks the pilots in the air. One pilot fights back while the other flies the plane with some crazy acrobatics to knock the guy off his feet. They landed safely with the attacker subdued but many injuries and bloody footprints on the ceiling of the plane as evidence of the acrobatics and desperate fight.

Well this makes me feel even less comfortable every time I see a feeble old female flight attendant going into the cockpit when one of the pilots has to drop a deuce.

During a police interview, Emerson said he was having "a nervous breakdown," and hadn't slept for 40 hours, and felt dehydrated and tired. He admitted to pulling the handles and said he did it because "I thought I was dreaming and I just wanna wake up."

"The officer and Emerson talked about the use of psychedelic mushrooms and Emerson said it was his first time taking mushrooms," a probable cause document said.

IIRC, shrooms are legal in Oregon.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

not a chance.

it is federal jurisdiction, and the safety of aircraft/air industry is respected by everyone - Democrats, Republicans, even the Oregon govt.
I agree, 83 attempted murder charges should stick.

The bold part of your statement though, I can't help but laugh considering we now live in a banana republic.
Safety and respect are loosely guarded.

even in a banana republic, the ruling party needs money and goods to flow so they can take their part.
Right... and safety and respect are the least of their concerns.

ridiculous. going to disagree with you. and leave it at that.
Ridiculous that you think our banana republic ruling class is concerned about our safety and respect for us. I'll disagree with you as well, and leave at that.

Banana republic or not, you don't thumb your nose at who knows how many FARs like this and get away with it. He's screwed.

I've been in aviation long enough to have seen that no administration plays around with this stuff. Not W right after 9/11, not the current guy who belongs in an assisted living home. This kind of thing transcends party lines.
