Agree. But that requires you amend the Texas Constitution. We are one of the few states that enumerates public education in our constitution.

You are only counting the legal residents I assume. What is the $ figure going to the non-legal residents?

And legislate wokeness out of privatized sports, lest woke corporatism take over.
hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. good times create weak men. and weak men create hard times.

less virtue signaling, more vice signaling.

Private sports league, taking no government money, can make it birth certificate sex only.
Similar to the MLB, FIFA model, we would have better football and basketball.
If Nike said "We don't support the Texas Young Guns Football league because they won't allow trans athletes" then the Aggie Victor athletic wear company can step in.

No way Nike is going to let a prime athlete not get under contract.

Are you talking about the budget that came out of the ' most conservative legislature' in Texas history? The budget that was increased 42% over last session? Oh.

So "health and human services" can take up 2/3 instead of 1/3?

The education budget makes me sad. Stadiums and sports eat up plenty, sure. But there is so much waste in so many areas. Contractors getting fat on school contracts because they can. Supers getting rich. Infinity levels of "administrators".

I can see the ways it would go wrong, but I feel like if we could break everything down into a **** load of tiny ISDs, where local populations are able to actually see what's going on compared to what the monster ISDs are able to get away with now, we'd see waste go down. No more mega contracts for ADs. No more mega contracts for superintendents. For many, many ISDs in the state right now, trying to even scratch the surface of waste would take years to uncover.

It's not rape when you consent to it. They were all approved by the voters.

Most are built by bonds approved by voters

Taxpayers vote how they wish, and if they choose to fund bonds for stadiums then so be it. Or are you one of those guys who wants local governments to enforce your personal opinions and ignore your neighbors?

They're paid for with bond money but the bonds are paid back, in part, with state funds.

We're not talking about college athletics here; we're talking about secondary schools. They damn sure do get public funds for athletics. Those districts would not be able to afford those facilities without state dollars. Even if the state money doesn't go DIRECTLY to pay for it (initially or to pay back bonds) they provide for other costs, making money available for the athletic facilities.

So now the claim is bond votes are rigged?

See above and below.

A ballot box found weeks after Election Day has flipped a $569 million school bond vote in Midland

We won. No, you won. Wait! We won! Confusion in a Texas school bond election isn't going away. Even with 820 votes missing, district leaders declared victory anyway in a half-billion-dollar bond election.

The money from the state is not used to build stadiums. That is from bond packages you vote on at the local level.

Somebody's gotta mow the grass and change the light bulbs. Every school has a custodian. That's chicken scratch in comparison to building stadiums.

That's my concern with vouchers. Once you take state or federal funds, strings are attached.

Either private schools should have to take the same STAAR like tests or nobody should take them. If parents are the judge of a good education for their children in private schools, the same respect should be given to public school parents.
