US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is slated to make a late-night statement from the US Embassy's branch office in Tel Aviv after meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet for nearly eight hours at the IDF's Kirya military headquarters nearby.

Say one thing in public. Ask for something else in private.

I don't know how you can possibly ask the Israelis to deal with a ridiculous concept of "proportionality" after what happened on October 7.

But here we are, trying to tell Israel to treat Hamas and Gaza with kid gloves.

Israel dithered and Hamas and Iran will benefit as will Jordan, Syria, and Egypt because the Gazans will stay where they are. If the offensive is called off Iran is going to crow about it. Hamas will be seen by Palestinians as having stared down the IDF. Imagine how China will interpret this weakness as they look across the straight towards Taiwan. Weakness put the world in this situation and weakness will make it worse.

You underestimate Israel's resolve. They aren't going to stop at air strikes. The "delay" will prove inconsequential in terms of Hamas' fate.

They are wavering. Look at CNN homepage. It's all Palestinian woe and Palestinian American kid murdered. You are underestimating the influence of globalists leftist propaganda and politicians.

I'm thinking that Israel wants to hit them so hard that it will take multiple generations to rebuild to what Hamas is today in strength. Not only just in people numbers, but also infrastructure.

In this way, it will take more than 10-15 years for it to happen again, but in general, yes, I agree, it will happen again. Has been for millennia.
If they can do that then I think that's about as much as can be realistically hoped for. I hope they do all they can in the window they have.

And I think you're overestimating Israel's GAF about any of that after this latest attack.

I wouldn't read that much into it, the guy is only good for about 5 hours on one of his better days. Throw in the time difference and I'm surprised he's even up for that much.

I don't really get what this would accomplish. Is this the US trying to influence Israel or the other way around?

I also don't think anyone here would be shocked if Iran did a nuclear test after Israel begins the ground offensive.

Do we think hamas could possibly have deep enough tunnels to be undetectable and stretch into Israel?

I mean the great USA is limited in our ability to detect the cartels doing this at the southern border.

Definitely the US trying to influence Israel and Biden shoring up Jewish votes. Netanyahu needs the hassle of an in-person visit by geriatric Biden in the first days of this war like a boar needs a tit. Remember also, Biden was a part of the administration that campaigned against Netanyahu.

Does Hamas not have Stingers or other anti-aircraft weapons? Or any other bad actors in the region for that matter. You never hear of any IDF aircraft being shot down or even shot at. And announcing the POTUS time table like that....seems sketchy.

If they have weapons from Ukraine, it seems like they could have thrown in a handful of those for good measure.

If Hamas was dumb enough to shoot down AF1, I cannot imagine the hell that would be unleashed upon them. You'd then have a not insignificant amount of Dems joining Repubs in wanting to raze Gaza into the sea.

I have zero trust/confidence in any of our political leadership getting the Israeli's to rely on the US or 'our word' in how they handle Hamas or any other damn thing.

That is my concern. This show of force may also a way for the US to control airspace and throttle back Israel then it is a show of force to Iran and others.

What we do know about the men behind the curtain is they are usually doing the exact opposite of their claims In Bidens remarks about Israel defending themselves wasn't a speech condoning all out offensive attack on Gaza. It sounded that way……but under the scrutiny of what is…..is! It was more of a ……sure Israel has the right to defend itself.

This administration has a partnership with Iran. It doesn't want to be Irans adversary, but it does has to look like it is threatening Iran on the worlds stage. I do not trust the men behind the curtain to 100% behind Israel.

Remember these are the same masterminds of the Afghanistan pullout and called the Taliban partners.

Which is ironic, since that was the whole stated reason for the creation of Jordan as a state in the first place.

Yep, we still don't know what will happen, but this reduction in scale seems inevitable to me. The only way I see this reaching the levels of intensity that many are hoping for is for Iran to launch an attack on Israel. If there is no more significant escalation from the Arab side then I think we'll still see attacks continue for a while but everything will end much sooner than people expect and this will wind down.

I said it several days ago. No other Arab country wants them.

Egypt could host camps in the Sinai and they won't.
Jordan really can't host them but won't even if they could.
Lebanon? Yeah no way. They can't and won't.
The Sauds easily could set up camps. And won't.
The Qatari govt could pay for it in petty cash to host them anywhere someone would take them and they wouldn't spend a dime.

Everyone is talking a good game but wouldn't put their money where their mouth is in a million years.

Well, the reason they don't want the Palestinians in Jordan and/or Egypt, is to allow Hamas and the Palestinians to continue to terrorize the Israeli government and it's citizens......

Also, they don't want these animals in their countries creating situations that might bring war to them.

Bottomline, keep them in Gaza, so they can continue to be a bloody thorn in Israel's side.

anything less than total defeat and we will be doing this again in 5-10 years.

I agree 100%. But what does total defeat of a para-military terrorist organization look like, other than extermination? Unless eradicated, it is essentially being the Orkin Man coming along every so often and stamping them out. It is a never-ending war of containment. At some point it seems it will escalate, widen, brings in sovereign nations, and it is a wide-scale war with the intent of a significant depopulation event (the WEF would applaud?) Until then, the Orkin Man strategy will persist.
