Too bad they couldn't get him alive after the drone footage- couldn't ID him with the dust and cover.

Good riddance - I hope the Gazans celebrate his death and turn the rest over to Israel - probably not likely.

On the drone footage, is he missing his right hand? The really dark color and the shape lead me to wonder if his hand is missing from the blast he already endured. Anyone with more experience in battle footage have an opinion here?

Hand still looks to be there, possibly some bleeding around his elbow.

So a tank shell killed him? Did someone shoot a pistol round through the cheek causing the head wounds? Just looks like crazy damage. Dang. That is brutal way to go…

Gotta disagree. Taking credit for Israel's success which was only achieved by giving Biden the finger, then immediately following up with calling for Israel to call off the dogs? Well written? Sure. But it's disgusting.

Agree with this.
It was only a couple weeks ago that FJB was warning Israel not to carry out a major operation in Rafah and threatening to withhold munitions if they did.

Today, Sinwar was confirm killed in an Israeli operation in Rafah.

So with this, they've almost(?) completely decapitated both hamas and hezbollah. I think the rest of the world *****ing and complaining about going into gaza and Lebanon can go suck it. This should have been some 30 years ago.

Those IDF KC-707's must be tough to maintain (JT3's are going away even from the B-52). Good that they have new tankers on order, if Boeing is able to ever get their mechanics back to work.

What was the reason biden/harris were giving to avoid Rafah? Easy jump to a conclusion that they were protecting sinwar and knew he was there, but I don't want to believe that.

I had a similar thought. This administration is that evil, but they're not that smart.

Maybe he was in that area because he thought he was safe due to the comments.

Regardless the evil terrorist is dead and the world should rejoice. Aloha Snackbar!

PLO mourns 'martyrdom' of Hamas chief Sinwar, hails him as a 'great national leader'
By Agencies (Times of Israel)

The Palestine Liberation Organization, seen internationally as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, expresses its condolences on the "martyrdom" of Hamas terror chief Yahya Sinwar and calls for unity among all Palestinian factions.

"The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) expresses its condolences to the Palestinian people and all national factions on the martyrdom of the great national leader Yahya Sinwar, head of the political bureau of Hamas," a statement by the committee says.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement, which controls the PLO and Palestinian Authority ruling over the West Bank, has had a tense relationship with Hamas since the latter violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 and removed all Fatah officials from the coastal enclave after Israel unilaterally withdrew in 2005 from the entire Strip.

Sinwar was the architect of Hamas's October 7 assault on Israel that killed some 1,200 people, most of them civilians and took 251 hostages.

Israel wanted to liberate Rafah- the entire world told them not to do it:

In mid-March, US officials told the Politico news site that US President Joe Biden would consider limiting future military aid to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu moved ahead with an offensive against Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah.

Days before, Biden said in an interview that such an IDF move into the city would be a "red line," while adding that he was "never going to leave Israel. The defense of Israel is still critical."

Vice President Kamala Harris famously said at the time that she had "studied the maps" and that an operation was not viable, while warning of potential consequences.

The US wasn't the only country to use unusually harsh language in warning against the step. An Israeli offensive in Rafah "could only lead to an unprecedented humanitarian disaster and would be a turning point in this conflict," said French President Emmanuel Macron. The UK, Jordan and Egypt also issued stark injunctions.

In fact, world leaders were projecting outright panic over the planned campaign, which Israel insisted was necessary in order to complete the dismantlement of Hamas. They warned of catastrophic consequences for the civilian population in the city, which had become a refuge for much of the Strip's population amid the war; they said a proper evacuation of the city would require months and was unfeasible; they predicted a cataclysmic death toll that would dwarf all that had come before.

The intense global pressure led to months of delay, but the Rafah offensive eventually went ahead in May regardless, with Israel successfully evacuating the civilian population ahead of its push into the city in a matter of days and none of the predictions of disaster coming to pass.

Over the course of four months, the military systematically dismantled Hamas's Rafah Brigade, with civilian deaths actually far lower than during the opening campaigns of the war in Gaza's north.

It's been 17 days. There's been a lot of chatter in the back channels about scope and scale with Iran already stating publicly that a limited strike would not result in a response.

Israel doesn't seem to be planning a limited strike.

The PLO and Hamas are rivals. The PLO was kicked out when Hamas took over Gaza. It's all about garnering public support for a future PLO/Fateh administration in Gaza, which seems to be the Israeli preference.

The Israelis and the PLO are at least on speaking terms and have been able to reach mutual understanding many times in the past. That accounts for a lot of the relative peace in the West Bank (partially governed by the PLO) compared to Gaza.

The problem with this is that the PLO pays Palestinians to maim and murder Jews. It's stated PLO Policy.

The fact that the PLO is putting out a statement lamenting the loss of Sinwar simply means they can't ever be trusted to have their own state. They are as guilty as Hamas. They are just smarter about not picking a direct fight with a superior force and culture.

I would still boot all of them out of Israel.

That Israeli retaliation is coming any minute now. Or not. Or maybe later. Right around the corner. But maybe the corner is a long way away. Or maybe it's the next corner. Who knows.
