BREAKING: Iranian foreign minister @Amirabdolahian told @AlArabiya that “in the coming hours it is possible to imagine any preemptive steps against Israel,” and that “if the crimes in Gaza do not stop immediately, new fronts will be opened.”

The Palestinians are their own worst enemy. Gaza has been free of Israeli control since 2005, subsidized with utilities by Israel, and swamped with $Billion$ in international financial aid. A moral people would seek to prosper themselves by non-violent means. They could have established a tourism or agricultural economy. But rather than living side by side in peace with Israel, they persist in indoctrinating their children into carrying out the worst in human atrocities. When given the chance to govern themselves, they elect Hamas as their representatives. There wouldn't even be border restrictions if these folks were not constantly smuggling arms and being useful pawns of Iran.bthotugigem05 said:
The Palestinians are more valuable to the Arab world as a problem than they are as a free people.

The Pentagon, on Monday, issued orders to 2,000 troops to prepare for immediate deployment to the Middle East in response to rising security threats to American interests in the region due to the Israel-Hamas War. The makeup of the forces includes medical personnel, explosive ordinance disposal units, and other various security personnel to bolster the security at key American facilities in the region.
LINKQuote:
The Pentagon stated that these forces, who would be coming from existing bases in the region and Europe, would not deploy into Israel itself. Rather, they would go to other countries in the region. However, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said recently that the administration has not ruled out the possibility of US forces being used inside Israel and/or Gaza in order to effect the release of American Hostages inside Gaza.
The Pentagon has already issued deployment orders to two American Carrier Strike Groups, consisting of the USS Gerald Ford Carrier Strike Group 12 out of the 6th Fleet, which is made up of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, with its eight squadrons of attack and support aircraft, and the Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy, as well as the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Thomas Hudner, USS Ramage, USS Carney, and USS Roosevelt. The other Carrier Strike Group consists of the 5th Fleet's USS Eisenhower, the guided missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea, and the guided missile destroyers USS Laboon, USS Mason, and USS Gravely.
Quote:
In addition to the Carrier strike groups, the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (MEUSOC) is also on its way to the region from its bases in Kuwait, onboard the Amphibious Assault Ship USS Bataan. The 26th MEUSOC is comprised of roughly 2,400 Marines and Sailors and is formed from aviation units flying the F-35B, MV-22 Ospreys, and other helicopters, an infantry battalion, with supporting artillery and track units, in addition to whatever special operations forces they may have attached.
All total, there is an immense amount of American Naval and Marine Corps firepower headed toward the region. That doesn't even include the numerous Air Force squadrons also being deployed in the region as well. With the war in its 10th day now, and no signs of stopping anytime soon, the US is gearing up to defend Israel if Hezbollah forces out of Lebanon live up to their threat to attack and or invade Israel from the North if Israel does not stop their offensive. Iran has seemed to back down from their threats to attack Israel if they continued their assault.
I have no idea what all the back room stategies are or the immense pressures being applied, but seems to me that Israel needs to move and move quickly. Every minute they wait, their enemies are driving a narrative and building support against full Israeli retaliation. Their threats of entering the conflict, whether true or bluffing, will cause Israel's allies to reconsider their support of total destruction of Hamas in Gaza. They may never have another opportunity like this to land a real and lasting blow to these butchers.Rossticus said:#Iran FM: Possibility of any preemptive action by Resistance front could be expected in the coming hours...Leaders of Resistance won’t allow the Zionist regime to take any action in #Gaza and then go to other parts of Resistance in the region...All options are before Hezbollah. pic.twitter.com/Zf98QubCJ9

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his inner circle have indicated to their Biden counterparts that Israel has not yet come up with such a strategy and instead are more focused on the immediate goal of removing Hamas from power in Gaza, the US official says. (2/4)

Shooting from the hip here. I think if you have a good ground penetrating radar that is AT ground level in a relatively open area, any tunnels should be easy to find.Ag In Ok said:
I have a question for you hardest working Ags in O&G - how accurate is ground penetrating radar and how effective is airborne GPR?

How well is Hamas preparing with no/limited food or water or power?

I'm sure they are doing whatever they can to better prepare for a ground war.
Every day is another they have to plan. And make arrangements with Iran and Hezbollah.

Understand. But unless they have stores of fuel and generators, they will be pretty low tech soon.
The Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon has stated that Israel and the United States should take the Warnings issued earlier by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian very Seriously.

I think the peace process will continue, but it's on an understandable hold right now. SA knows as well as everyone else that this was orchestrated by their enemy Iran precisely to derail it. But, there's no way it can continue AT THIS TIME.PJYoung said:
Hamas did this fully expecting Israel to respond with a devastating ground attack and possible occupation. They wanted to do something so horrible that it would leave Israel no choice.
I wonder what would happen if Israel decides to call it a day with some more aerial bombardment, trying to pick off more of the Hamas leadership without any boots on the ground in numbers?
Hamas wouldn't get their world wide outrage at Israeli "atrocities" in Gaza and maybe the peace process with Saudi Arabia (what kicked this off) could continue.

Israel dithered and Hamas and Iran will benefit as will Jordan, Syria, and Egypt because the Gazans will stay where they are. If the offensive is called off Iran is going to crow about it. Hamas will be seen by Palestinians as having stared down the IDF. Imagine how China will interpret this weakness as they look across the straight towards Taiwan. Weakness put the world in this situation and weakness will make it worse.Stlkofta said:

Say one thing in public. Ask for something else in private.
I don't know how you can possibly ask the Israelis to deal with a ridiculous concept of "proportionality" after what happened on October 7.
But here we are, trying to tell Israel to treat Hamas and Gaza with kid gloves.
