That was probably more because people can't afford to buy groceries. Probably have several guns and just gave one or two of them back. I guarantee you that most if not all of those people still have an arsenal.

Give up a gun or two that you don't want anymore and get some free food. Good on them.

What a naive dumb ass.
Currently a happy listless vessel and deplorable. #FDEMS TRUMP 2024.

If people want to get guns cheap, this is the place to buy them.

A few years ago, Detroit had a buyback program and people were bringing in their guns. Individuals were buying guns and were giving the individuals more than what the city was giving.

Sometimes, true gems can be had for one purchase was from a old lady that was turning in a weapon that her father had brought back from WW II.

It was a German Sturmgewehr 44, and he gave her $100 for it. This is a $20,000 weapon.

And could also be highly illegal if it wasn't registered before 1986, unless it was demilled.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

That's what I don't like about this. Why can the government do things citizens can't? A citizen can't "buy" a stolen gun or an "illegal" one (whatever that means). Why can the government?

We're not talking about turning one in to law enforcement -- say, if a landlord found one in an abandoned rent house. That's a different issue.

That's the problem with setting up shop near these buybacks. You pay $200 for a 1911 only to find out it was stolen and you have to return it. Even older ones could have been stolen recently. I guess you could only buy ones without serials.

Went to check out modern firearm replicas and all of the cheap ones seem to be sold out, is this due to the coming Gun Buyback?

This program has been super successful in Harris County! Look at the statistics of violent crime and it speaks volumes about how this program works......Hope you note the sarcasm in this post as locals in Harris County brought in rusty nonoperational guns, 3D Printed guns etc. Liberal Virtue Signaling at it's best.

Well, some people made a good return. So there's that.

I'll never attend one of these but I wish someone would take a camera and ask a few questions to these "well-intentioned" people, particularly the mastermind if he/she is there. A fact-based on the spot debate would be quite entertaining. I'm guessing they'd get all twisted and try to shut down the filming.
I don't think you know me.

Makes me wonder if police would harass those offering better than buy back deals.

Approximately 850 guns collected, a handful of guns that probably had some value, most of the rest of them probably junk. One guy turned in an Arisaka rifle. Of course there were a few vultures hanging around paying cash for the more collectible stuff.

I bet none of what they bought back was destined to be used in a violent crime.

Sounds like the real winners are the folks buying the working guns at gift card prices.

If they're serious about reducing death, have a buyback program for cars.
Yeah, or tobacco products.

They never come to grips with the guns not being the problem, but rather it is percentage of people that live in the big cities who are riff raff. Couple that with a "justice" system that doesn't punish criminals and there you are.

I'm not sure how the police could keep someone away from that who really wanted to buy the guns. As long is it is on public property and accessible they couldn't stop you from standing right in front of it.

Of course they are cops who probably have zero issues violating your rights, but still. I hope someone did it.

I always thought these were supposed to be no-name/no-questions-asked type events. If they don't have names, why are they doing this:
Quote:

Operable guns will undergo forensic testing and be checked for involvement in crimes, McManus said.

Seems like an even bigger waste of money.

Yeah, how many Remington 870 Wingmasters do you think we're involved in crimes?

It's not the guns that are killing people in San Antonio. I can guarantee you their fatness is killing fat more. But, but we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
