Law of unintended consequences on line 1.

There have been a number of states that have been wanting a constitutional convention for items such as balanced budgets, term limits for Congress/Judiciary and the like for years. If California goes in thinking it is going to get this passed, I have a feeling they are in for a world of hurt.

At least they are trying to do it the correct way.

If Democrats want to abolish gun ownership, then amending the Constitution is how to do it.

And of course because someone will say I'm backing them; I am not supporting what they want.

There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

What pct of "gun violence" is committed using weapons that were illegally obtained? How many of those shootings were committed by convicted felons? When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns=we are sitting ducks.

Levin has been begging for a Constitutional Convention for years. I just think that California thinks it will strong arm this through and there would be far more states not wanting this than do want this.

A constitutional convention is an extremely high risk/reward gamble if you have radical activists from both sides pushing it. You might get changes you really don't want or with unintended consequences, and it would be incredibly hard to undo.

They might be able to get it sent to the states for ratification, but it would never be approved.

And I agree, I'd like to see the convention of the states. I doubt anything would happen, other than perhaps the Republicans caving and giving the Democrats things they want in return for empty promises.

I doubt any amendment that would come out of it would get ratified because both sides would simply reject any amendment the other side supports.

This is such a GD dog whistle for the left. "Weapons of war" - rocks were once weapons of war. Axes, bows, sharp sticks, even boiling water.

Meh. Let's have the Constitutional Convention and let the states really show their hands for what they really want to push for.

If the leftist states really want to push for less liberty, then the conservative states need to either dominate the leftist ideology into submission or they need to put secession on the table.

There's no real risk. The ratification process is still the same. Right now, nothing is coming up because the process to PROPOSE amendments is controlled by Congress, specifically 2/3rds of Congress, which won't happen on much of anything. 38, or whatever number of states required for ratification, are not going to ratify something radical.

Would gladly purchase a new 49 star flag. They should do it and elect Newsome as their first POC. They can murder babies by the dumpster full and live gun free. What a utopia. They could create a tax that takes all possessions if you leave the country utilizing their new digital currency. Meanwhile the remaining states can sit back and watch the failure with our own eyes while enjoying those 50 some odd electoral points.

If the Right is entitled to seek a Convention of the States on its issues, so is the Left.

Neither will accomplish much.

As I read Article V, the 2/3 of the States need not request a Convention to address the same questions or proposals. So, California and ten other States might request a convention to limit the Second Amendment, Texas and twenty states might request a Convention to remove birthright citizenship, and Louisiana and four States might request a Convention to revise the 19th Amendment. You've got your 2/3, and no one is discussing the same issues.

Chaos ensues, rather like 1787, when they met to amend the Articles and ended-up trashing them completely.

In no way, shape or form would a constitutional convention be a good idea with the quality of politician and people in general we have today. In fact, it is one of the scariest things I can think of and would likely end up in full scale conflict as a result.

I would prefer to purchase a flag with one - or maybe you would say lone - star. Commi-fornia isn't the only problem with the USSA. As the UK showed with the EU, self-determination on matters such as fiscal policy and immigration are the only good solution.

Or alternatively, we could pass a constitutional amendment allowing states that disagree with enumerated rights embodied the US constitution to secede.

At least the governance is returned to the states. Let radical activists have their way as long as it is contained in each state and not pushed on the masses from Washington.

It could be called for under the premis of XYZ reason, but once a convention is convened - should the delegates decide to do so, they have the power at the convention to re-write any or all parts of the constitution.
