How long do you want to ignore this user?

Dear People of Harris County:
Thank you to my colleagues, family, and the Harris County community for the outpouring of support that I received after I announced I was seeking inpatient mental health treatment for depression. I have been deeply touched by all the messages that I have received, not only from Harris County residents but from across the country. So many people wrote to me to share their own struggles with mental health and their support for my decision to be public about my journey. I am encouraged that so many in our community agree that treatment for mental illness should be normalized just as seeking treatment any illness is accepted and expected.
After my time in a fantastic inpatient facility, I am feeling a lot better. I am looking forward to being discharged this Saturday, September 16, 2023, starting outpatient care, and re-acclimatizing to life outside a mental health facility. My initial treatment plan had me returning to my regular schedule in September, but my discharge date was moved back, which moves back the re-acclimatization period. The way my doctors explained re-acclimatization to me is that you would not go from heart surgery straight to running a marathon, in the same way that they do not want me to go straight back to my usual schedule. I am feeling great and looking forward to returning on Monday, October 2, 2023. Thanks to the incredible medical team that has cared for me over the past several weeks, I feel so much stronger than I have ever been.

I continue to maintain lines of communication with my staff and the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management remains fully prepared to respond to any potential incident, as well as request my presence if necessary.
I am grateful for your continued support. I look forward to sharing more about my experience, and most of all, I am eager to return to the community and the job that I love.
Sincerely,
Lina Hidalgo

Wish she would go back to Columbia and stay there.
Time, like hope is only an illusion.

This is one of the reasons I favor WFH.

It drains Harris County and the low IQ people that run it of tax money.

She is dumb as a rock.

I hate metaphors when not needed. She did not have heart surgery and a marathon scheduled. Just say what it is. She is in mental hospital, and she needs three weeks with pay to watch Netflix and chill (not in that way).

This is what happens when people allegedly vote for people with no experience. I'm not talking just about political experience, but real world experience. She is in so far over her head that it amazes me that she won reelection. No way do I believe she could have won reelection without shady stuff going on. Major funded campaign, well organized against her. And the Chronicle endorsing her opponent. If the Chronicle endorses a Republican in a general election, that means the Democrat has to be worthless.

Yeah not opening polling locations on time and others running out of supplies are totally Harris counties fault.
Oh and redrawing commissioners court boundaries to gerrymander one of the incumbent Republicans of the court... totally Harris counties fault.

This is the epitome of absolute liberal, leftist, bush league, incompetence, and utter failure.

Any elected official who has to check out from their sworn duties and responsibilities for several months should simply resign their office, or be forced to resign. Not sorry, you don't get to take an extended mental health day for several months because you got a case of the Mondays, got dumped (again), or are covering up an addiction. F'ing resign Dora. Harris is arguably the most strategically and economically valuable county in the entire country. If you need to spend months getting treatment, do it, but resign.

This is just embarrassing for Texas and the whole country. More so, it's dangerous. This child needs to just get a job at Old Navy where she belongs.

If someone has mental health issues or has to be treated for mental health issues they should in no way be in any position to speak or act for other people. If your brain isn't right you don't need to be in public office or in charge of anything.

I'll bet you'd be surprised just how many of your friends and family are functioning normally but have mental health issues. This type of attitude is why it is still stigmatized.

I agree on the public office side, but to say a person shouldn't be in charge of anything is greatly misguided.
