It passed in the senate with 68 votes over a decade ago. It should be brought back around, improved and passed.

Quote:

A path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (that would take 13 years) already in the United States is contingent on certain border security and visa tracking improvements. The plan provides for permanent residence for illegal aliens only after legal aliens waiting for a current priority date receive their permanent residence status and a different citizenship path for agricultural workers through an agricultural worker program.
Business immigration system reforms, focusing on reducing current visa backlogs and fast tracking permanent residence for U.S. university student visa graduates with advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering or math also known as the STEM fields.
An expanded and improved employment verification system for all employers to confirm employee work authorization.
Improved work visa options for low-skilled workers including an agricultural worker program.

Quote:

Many of these components depended on each other the bill was set up so that the path to citizenship didn't kick in until certain security metrics hadn't been met and the backlogs had been cleared.

Quote:

The Senate immigration bill would have provided $46.3 billion in funding for border security. It required the US Border Patrol to double the number of agents on the border within ten years, to 38,405. And it required the Department of Homeland Security to double the amount of fencing on the southwest border, to 700 miles. All of this would have had to happen before any unauthorized immigrants currently in the country could have applied for green cards.

Seems like a pretty good overhaul of the immigration. We could have had all that but for one person, John Boehner refused to put it to a vote in the house, without even negotiating.

Nope. We need less illegals, not more.

If the OP thinks most conservatives here gave a whit about Boehner, you were wrong.

Don't need more unskilled, uneducated 3rd world humans to pick lettuce.

We live in the age of robotics, automation and technology. Bringing in more bottom feeders is dumb. But you know that.

We need much more automation, not less. We can't afford to take care of more liberals.

That's the thing we have about 10,000,000 of them working her illegally so obviously we do need them.

So let's make them legal.

The bill would make them legal, make it harder for more to get in, and make it harder for business to hire undocumented workers.

And then make it easier for people with skills to immigrate here.

A corollary to your post is we need to improve our educational system. I tire of hearing about school districts graduating high school students with < 6th grade math skills and reading ability, or worse.

For all you grammar experts, please feel free to correct my grammar, hell throw in spelling errors.

Get rid of social services and they go back home because US citizens would be forced to work and take those jobs. But you know that.

Can we get rid of the millions that came here under the current open borders regime?

Nope. Democrats will just ignore those laws as well.

What happens to the economy when you immediately remove 10,000,000, or approximately 6% of all the workers?
Funky Winkerbean
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Unemployed Americans go to work.
Manhattan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There are only 6.4mm unemployed.
Rockdoc
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No we don't need any more illegals. OP and the rest of the dems just want to pack them in here so they can vote. It's certainly not for compassionate reasons.
Funky Winkerbean

So we'll have 3.6 open jobs.
Manhattan

So how many businesses immediately fail? I mean **** 'em right, they hired undocumented workers!

Oh wait that would destroy the economy.
TexAgs91
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nope. We're way past the gang of 8 stuff. Finish the wall and surround colonials like the one in Plumb Grove with national guard and deport them by the millions.

Then we can talk.

We all know why you want more illegals here. You arent fooling anyone.

I want more legal immigration, and to legally recognize the people here we have already decided to hire.

We've had a reported "11 million" illegals in this country for well over a decade. Millions more came here through open borders. The total number of illegals in this country is somewhere around 20-30M at this point.

We can deport every one of them that came here under Biden and there would be no impact.

Again, we don't need them or want them here. This is the second thread demonstrating that after you hijacked the fact that your Mayor can't handle anymore.

You're just looking for low IQ votes to harvest.

Wrong! Cut the social services and that number quadruples instantly.

Go read my responses on that thread about the mayor instead of trying to derail this one.

They are clearly wanted here as evidenced that 10,000,000 of them have been hired to work.

That are only wanted because we pay liberals in this country to sit on their butts.

We need low IQ humans for jobs that Americans on welfare and disability could easily do if they were not in the dole.

It's called root cause analysis, something you don't engage in.

I'm fine with making all illegals here that are working legal with guest worker status as long as there is never a path to citizenship for anyone that came here illegally.

Coming here illegally should make you automatically ineligible to ever be a citizen.

There should also be a provision whereby the status of a baby born here is the status of the birth mother. If the birth mother is here as a guest worker the baby is a child of the guest worker thereby making them a citizen of the country that guest worker is a citizen of. If they are here illegally than the baby is here illegally.

I'm absolutely in favor of granting guest worker status to people migrating here to work. No problem. As long as they are here with a legal guest worker card I consider them here legally. But I do not consider those people here in order to become American citizens.

The Gang of Eight bill was not structured this way which is why it was a nonstarter in the House. There was no reason to consider the legislation when the other side wants citizenship for millions of people that came here illegally and has no desire to even compromise on that point.

Think about it. The compromise IS that people can be here to work legally as guest workers. But democrats don't consider that a compromise. Even though NOT compromising would be the deportation of the illegals, which is what should happen to these people by law.

They are not needed whatsoever. As has been stated on multiple threads, cut entitlements and Americans will go back to work. No more welfare, no more free healthcare, 0. We have the workers here.

You should go around NYC and tell hedge funds and banks that they need to hire illegals for their open positions. Start in your own house before dumping them on the rest of "flyover country."

Here's what we can do. Send all the illegals back and let them enter legally, get their jobs back, work and support themselves for 10 years and then they can vote.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
No. Reagan should have never done amnesty in the 80s. And it does not need to be done now. In fact we need to do away with birth right citizenship and make citizenship based on parental citizenship status.
