The image is after he shot, but you can see him shifting to the side as he shoots in the video. Hard to capture that in a still image.

The lady was really dumb, but these cops were losing their minds over a suspected shoplifter it seems. Unless there is more to the story that made her an actual threat that hasn't come out yet.
I think they were losing their minds over a tense situation that didn't need to be tense. She made it very tense though.

Obviously doesn't seem nearly as tense to us, watching on a phone or computer, in the comfort of our own homes.

With the almost complete lack of fathers and male role models in many urban black neighborhoods, I am almost wondering if schools and churches in these areas should offer a very basic course in how to behave during arrests, how to treat officers just doing their job, and most importantly, WHAT NOT TO DO when under arrest. Some of us knew this stuff at a very early age. You don't fight cops or make them fear for their lives.

There are lots of a-hole cops out there...I have been pulled over by some. I was even roughed up by one when I was younger and had done nothing wrong. You don't fight them or brandish weapons, or threaten them, or try to run them over. No matter what.

Get out out of the car.
Cooperate with officers who are at a minimum doing a Terry stop.
If no stolen merch is found then proceed into the nearest law firm for easy money on multiple lawsuits.

In reality….She likely either had other contraband or stolen goods so this outcome was not far fetched as a realistic probability.

I don't think the officer can be shown to be in compliance with the police department's policy given the video evidence. He was already moving to the side as he shot. This is murder.

This is what is so baffling to me when I see these videos. How the F do you do anything but comply when police are giving you commands with guns drawn? How the F do you push the situation to the point that the cops feel the need to draw their weapons in the first place.

I've been arrested a couple of times and never thought to myself that fighting or fleeing the cops standing in front of me was an option.

Geez, that's crazy to me. We have completely different perceptions of this video. And no, I am not AT ALL happy that this was the outcome.

I will say this though...You have got to be insane to want to be a cop nowadays. F that sh**. Might think about it for doctor money...but I just wouldn't enforce anything against blacks. I would only police white and brown people. Nothing good can come from trying to arrest black people, when compared to the consequences. I would let black people do whatever they wanted I think. I've got a family to come home to and I don't want to be killed or have my life ruined by some liberal judges or jury members if I ever find myself in a jam and fear for my life enough to use my weapon.

Did she run over him? I missed that part.

It appeared to me he stepped immediately in front of her car as it initially sat motionless. She started slowly rolling forward and he stepped to the side so she would not run over him or his toes. No engine rev or acceleration. Smart move on his part.

She continued to slowly drive forward, at walking speed, for 50'-100' until the car came to rest against the building. The officers appeared to walk alongside the vehicle the entire time.

Oh yeah, I left out that he shot her dead as he stepped to the side.

Too bad there is no "Instant Tire Clamp" device to immobilize (shred the tire) available to police. No matter what they do or don't do, they are going to be adjudged wrong.

I wonder if it was a negligent discharge. In that scenario, maybe he had poor trigger discipline, and accidentally shot as he was trying to get out of the way.

If intentional, wasn't a smart shoot. Legal? I don't know.

But as said above, I'm tired of people who steal, who confront cops, who think rules don't apply to them.

It's hard to work up a lot of sympathy for some folks.

I read the thread before watching the video.

Watching the video, the first cop to the car was not pounding on the window screaming at her as stated. He was pretty calm and ordering her out of the car. That was not a high stress situation at that point.

The second cop comes up and moves in front of the car. The driver continues to refuse the order to get out of the car. She puts the car in gear and it moves forward quick enough to hit the officer in front of the car, then she starts to accelerate again with the cop on the hood of her car and he fires one shot.

That said, I would be happy to see cops shooting more thieves every day. We've made theft and burglary a high profit, low risk activity.

It all happened at turtle speed. The bullet did not slow the car's movement. He easily stepped aside. The other officer was calm as a cucumber while telling her to get out of the car.

Certainly possible she had the car in gear, getting ready to leave, when they approached and she inadvertently took her foot off the brake in the confusion. My guess is the car just travelled under it's own steam after the gunshot.

Maybe the car has a black box that can tell us if she hit the throttle. I saw no sign that she had intent to injure the officer.

If this was my wife or daughter I would not be saying good shoot. It has nothing to do with being anti-cop; it has to do with objective observation and rational thought. There is no way I want any LEO to think this is a good shoot. Maybe you do, but I do not.

I am pro-cop but anti-idiot.

More than a few stores don't seem to mind if you shoplift, in fact some don't want their employees to intervene.

With a normal person, that would de-escalate the situation, for sure. If I am caught thieving, and then decide to resist arrest, as a rational/logical person, i absolutely stand down once they aim a gun at me.

Why dont any of these body camera videos start with a person complying with police officers?

OH..because if that happens no one gets BTFO.

It's a very simple formula.

Well the guy in Ohio (IIRC) who got the dog sicced on him had his hands up and was complying while troopers told the stupid ass not to release the dog...

Because it's a tough shot when you are getting run over. Plus you have ricochet risk off the pavement in a lot like this. Some kid takes a bullet instead of the lady trying to run over the cop

lol, would not have been a tough shot in this situation. Standing right beside a car going 1mph ain't exactly an Adolph Toepperwein type of shot. Not saying that shooting out a tire is a good idea though, for the reason you mention.

Back when I was a cop, we carried a lug wrench and in this situation, we would walk alongside taking lug nuts off until the tire fell of the vehicle.

I'm actually pretty shocked and disappointed in myself for how little I care about this person, but I just don't.

At all.

You shoplift, refuse to get out of the car, drive into an officer and ultimately get shot. What was the proximate cause of her death? HER OWN FREAKING ACTIONS. I feel so bad for cops. Having to deal with these pathetic excuses for humans who can't behave themselves and act like civilized citizens. Now he's probably going to spend the rest of his life in jail all because this worm, whose overall existence is a net drain on society, decided to wake up that morning and act like a thug criminal.
