OMG that exposes DeSantis right there. Great video.
If he becomes President and is at a decision point, he will look around and propose the consensus vote so he won't stand out. Not Presidential or leader-like.
Vivek was clear in his stand. You can disagree if you like but he is decisive.
What was the question that was asked? I didn't watch the debate. Desantis definitely paused and looked around first before reluctantly raising his hand.
The key context that is missing is they had another "Hand Raise" question before this and DeSantis said we shouldn't be doing those and instead should be discussing the issues. He was hoping the others would agree but it set up perfectly for Vivek to raise his hand immediately while standing next to DeSantis to give the visual. DeSantis wasn't looking around because he was unsure he was looking around hoping the others wanted to be adults, once he realized he was caught in the trap he raised his hand because he of course had already said he would support Trump if he was the nominee.
Now that is all the Trump folks will show about the debate of course.
Or maybe Desantis was looking to see which way the wind blew. Vivek made a similar gesture later in the debate as he sparred with Desantis. Those with clear convictions don't need to gauge the political winds as to their answer. It is determined immediately as displayed here.
Maybe, but DeSantis has been clear he would support Trump if he is the nominee up until this point.
Then why the hesitation? Should've been a no brainer for the guy. Instead, he looked around to see what others were going to do and then reluctantly held up his hand. It was very odd. Not as odd as whatever the hell Christie did, but still.
Once again he hesitated because he had come out specifically denouncing "hand raise" questions and was hoping the others would agree. When he saw everyone was doing the hand raise thing it left him in a place where he had to choose to either say yes or no and obviously he was a yes as he has consistently stated.
That's the reality of what happened. Was it a bad look? Sure, but the context matters. Fox kind of screwed him by asking a hand raise question after he said we shouldn't be doing those.
Or you can think that for whatever reason even though he has repeatedly said he would support Trump if he is the nominee and signed a paper to that effect that he had a crisis of conscience in that moment and was looking for leadership from Vivek. That's essentially your argument.
Sounds more like he screwed himself then? But glad to know you know the inner workings of his mind. All I stated was it was odd and a bad look. I get the raising of hands thing to move along the debate as opposed to going down the row of candidates and asking them to say yes or no individually. But hey, it was Fox News' fault Desantis looked weak and unsure.
I'm obviously just poking fun but displays like that leave lasting impressions. I am excited to see more debates as we get closer to the election and it'll be very interesting once the debate stage is whittled to two or three.
Nope, definitely DeSantis' fault and it showed one of his flaws which is he overthinks things. As I said it was his biggest misstep of the night. I just gave some context as to why I thought it happened.
Overall I thought DeSantis had a solid night with some good moments, a couple awkward ones, but had a strong finish. He accomplished what he needed to though in terms of not making a major mistake and being able to implant his strongest narrative and argument which is "These guys are talking about doing things, I have done them." It also looks like the field will likely narrow soon and that benefits him.
BTW, I'd enjoy a Vivek/DeSantis debate and I would REALLY enjoy Trump debating though moreso with DeSantis because Vivek doesn't like to criticize Trump and so often defends him. Hopefully we see more of that and not more debates where Mike Pence actually got the most time.
