You can't even use a debit card at most dispensaries. They take cash only

This has changed quite a bit...in Cali and Chicago at least...per a little birdie.

hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. good times create weak men. and weak men create hard times.

less virtue signaling, more vice signaling.

I don't think M/C gives a rats azz from a moral standpoint. You're talking about a relatively small number of transactions for a relatively small amount.

I'm guessing the lawyers made this decision.

Missouri is recreationally legal and they won't take anything but cards. No cash.

My Mastercard worked just fine at one, here in Missouri. Replenished!

Sounds great until they start blocking something that you want to buy.

Scuttle is that this is a move to piss off partakers of hippy lettuce so that they will call their congressperson and demand change at the national level.

My debit card is Visa so I am okay for now. But this is much less about MasterCard being virtuous and more about creating more momentum to end a long racist policy of marijuana being illegal.

It was definitely cash-only in the vast majority of places as recent as 2020/2021.

Vegas allowed debit cards before then. Colorado was most def debit card friendly 2022.

Most of my experience is with Cali. So it must be a Cali thing. Both places I visited in Colorado in May 2020 required cash as well.

Cali was cash only at one place in LA in May 2022, but debit card friendly at a place in Costa Mesa in Sept 2022 (although it was a weird process...not as simple as a debit card swipe). I pick up gummies any time I'm in a state where it's legal

People are hypocrites and willingly support trouncing on other peoples ability to do things they don't like. I actually think "conservatives" are worse about this then liberals because when they do it they see themselves as having the moral and righteousness authority to do it.

Seems silly. Every pot store I've been to in Oregon, California, and Nevada is cash only. No cards of any kind accepted. Definitely a non issue. Any places that aren't cash only in other states will be going that direction now, hardly a big deal if so.

Place in Vegas I stop into when in town has allowed credit cards / debit cards since at least 2018. For a bit it was a two-step buy a gift card then use gift card to purchase but last couple of times it straight debit card.

So many ways around it that you are right, its silly. But the point is not to prevent but to hassle so people will call their reps.

Last time I got some in CA was a year ago. Debit card was ok, but they rounded up to the next $5 and gave cash back.

Being a white male I was born racist and nothing I can do, no amount of guilt I can conjure up, no amount of reparations I can pay will ever change that. So might as well embrace.

Dumb

This will just make the dispensaries start accepting Weedcoin. Yes, it exists and has for a while. And there are ways to get Mastercard to pay for that.

Supposedly you can order the Cheech and Chong gummies on the internet and have them delivered. Not sure how that works or is even legal, but, they say it is. It'd be interesting to see if MC would block that.

I've heard the dispensaries in CO run debit cards as an ATM transaction, and banks like USAA refund the debit card fees.
