Iger put roughly a third of the company up for sale this week, declaring Disney's linear TV assets noncore. That includes TV networks ABC, FX and Freeform. He also said Disney is looking for a strategic partner for ESPN though he's not willing to sell the whole thing and the company is already looking to sell or restructure its TV and streaming business in India.

I hope the failure continues but we will see.

Yet the accelerating decline of cable TV has limited Iger's options. He thought he'd solved this problem with Disney+ and Hulu, his two mass-market streaming services. But his streaming business is expected to register a loss of about $800 million in the company's just-ended third quarter.

Hard to tell if this is the conservatives walking away or the natural decline of the media Disney is invested in. I think it's both. I think there is natural attrition, but there has to be a significant number of people who were just paying the 7-20 dollars a month without thinking twice that decided they could find a better way to spend it.

Disney has continually been hammered about all the weird crap they are involved with or out right support .. conservatives and mothers and fathers of children have seen and heard enough .. Disney has been exposed and is slowly dieing On the vine … Desantis coming after them directly and in the news gave these parents further proof what they were / are hearing on social media is indeed mostly confirmed info now .. they don't want little Suzy and little Johnny seeing this stuff anymore .. it's definitely the parents and conservatives taking notice and staying away !

I hope ESPN goes back to non political although I'm not sure that it's even possible .. many people have boycotted ESPN as well .. they are bleeding out on all of their platforms ..

Just my 2 cents from what I see .. I have not taken part in any Disney stuff for yeas .. including ESPN unless it's an actual college football game .. after the game I turn that junk off

Can you imagine if Elon Musk bought ESPN outright and merged it in with his 'X' empire?

Would certainly add some new meaning to the X games. But a lot of the woke crap would be cut pretty quick!

Whatever the reason, I'm not disappointed to see it. Disney has earned every bit of the struggles it's going through. Walt Disney would be disgusted with what his namesake has become.

There was a reason Disney only released fan favorites on DVD for a limited time. They KNEW their product couldn't exist by being constantly viewed. It is exceptional, but they screwed up.

They were made profitable by playing "just the tip" and then they messed up and let us just go full in. Now somebody has got to marry Disney, and it ain't her fat friend Hulu.

I am so old, I remember Walt. He was a good man. And he would be very sad and angry now.

Disney has a long way to fall. That being said I don't think Elon finds value in entertainment. His vision is a "one app for the masses" that includes everything. Twitter was an acquisition he made to be the foundation of that app. He has stripped the name and will be making moves to make it into that. With "Threads" failing, he has cemented his platform.

It's truely amazing. Disney went from let's create a dynasty in entertaining children to let's use our influence for population control.

These insanely evil individuals are now only focused on turning as many children as possible into future adults that won't reproduce offspring.

That's their focus.

Not saying you want to spend the money but you can view Hulu/YouTube TV over VPN from Europe. Did it last year for the CWS.

Disney going woke over the last decade has affected their bottom line because they really do crap on their source material and make movies like they either hate their audience or have decided that their audience needs improving somehow.

Their other problem is that even if they were to decide to end their wokeness this very moment, a full decade of woke hires and philosophies have stripped them of a lot of true, creative talent.

They have gone from wanting only to make crap to being only able to make crap.

I've said this many times in different places, but D+ was a mistake. Disney should have stuck to licensing and opening a a streaming revenue stream with someone like Netflix as opposed to creating an entirely new business unit. Let Netflix handle all of the risk and worry of subscribers, content management, etc while you basically get free money instead of taking all of that on yourself in a brand new and unproven business model. Now they've got a huge sunk cost for their platform, and if they nix it because it's losing money they have pissed off consumers and more brand damage.

Their products have also become very divisive. You stinky can't do that as a mass appeal studio. If you're pumping money into projects that you want to be blockbusters, you can't afford to insert any level of political agenda that may immediately cut 30%-50% of your potential audience. The same goes for the parks and everything else. The second you step foot into political waters you're going to drown if you're relying on a market composed of everyone. Only companies with highly skewed target demographics or irreplaceable products can afford to do that.
