I'm not providing a link to their idiocy so they get more clicks, it isn't hard to find if you want to.

It is amazing how many idiots there are around. I wish that newspaper would go out of business.

I read that plus a few other articles yesterday and concluded my subscription will not be renewed. The paper has been on thin ice and that was the last straw. If it had been another Bloomberg or such article is one thing but that was the editorial board. They showed colors one time too many.

Sorry buzzard , but professors should be hired to teach their subject matter and not inject DEI into their classroom . If you want to teach DEI teach it but do it up front and not behind a false front of another subject ,

The Egret editorial board has moved farther and farther to the left in recent years, but was never on the right, at least in a very long time.

They still avoid endorsing Democrats in most elections because they know their remaining readers would not like it. Usually they just say they don't recommend anyone.

There is a reason print media is dying and part of it is the people who still want to read a newspaper do not want to pay money for nothing but propaganda.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

It was a fiasco but not for the reason the buzzard thinks it is.

Basically a rogue administrator tried to usurp the power of the BOR. The BOR balked, and the administrator set fire to A&M and said adios.

This is all on bermudez and anyone else who was working with him on this cluster.

The BOR and McElroy didn't do anything wrong imo (it has nothing to do with eithers politics). They did what was within their power and purview.

If they mean the fiasco that got a contract in front of her in the first place, they're not wrong.

I don't know if I have schools right, but didn't Alabama fire some coach who was drunk at a stripper bar, and Washington or Washington state hired him and they fired him next day? Someone didn't do homework in hiring process.
Lol, I remember Henderson hired Tom Kimborough from Plano to be head coach. He lasted three days.

This, the BOR has the final say on all hiring(s) (and firing(s)); including interim deans.

"As this is written, McElroy's lawyer who parted association with McElroy by Monday and A&M officials are reported to be trying to reach an accord to allow McElroy to come to A&M."

They can't even put out a paper 7 days/week anymore. Nobody listens to them now.

"Interestingly, the renewed A&M journalism program must be approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, which meets in Austin later this month. How this controversy affect that approval is anybody's guess."

I think they endorsed Obama twice and Biden in the last election. That says all you need to know about The Buzzard. The fact that they can only put the paper out 3 times a week is more evidence that it is struggling and doesn't know its audience.

What does this even mean? Is A&M still trying to hire her? Did her lawyer leave her? This sentence is a mess.

Actually, from I have heard this is perfunctory and it will be revived. I think the buzzard is scare mongering because a lot of people on both political sides see a need for it to benefit A&M.

As I read it, there is still a chance she may be hired and she is changing legal counsel.

It is tough to assume anything is perfunctory in this climate.

Anything can change but everything I have heard says it gets approval. The question is who is going to run it.

I wonder if she is changing legal counsel to sue.

That editorial was a screed highlighted with temper tantrums from a toddler. It's a simple summation - you don't want an DEI professor running the new journalism department you are racist. Never mind the state has passed a law to remove DEI offices and training from college campuses. I don't think running an entire major/department under DEI will pass the test. It's not a single course.

And Bermudez needs to be fired - not demoted from his interim dean position. Why is there no interest in investigating why Bermudez said what he said, if it is accurate, or why McElroy turned all of her notes/conversations over to media to start this PR fiasco? Her first impulse was to pull her race into the situation instead of possibly looking at her life's work and how it's not a match for the direction the university wanted for the position. That entire exchange has had no scrutiny.

It's a mess because they were emotional idiots. Whenever someone uses "you're a racist" to make a point they have no legitimate point.

Thank you!

Lots of people have been quick to complain about "outside influences" without ever stopping to think how quickly McElroy called in the media to embarrass Bermudez and A&M, and how easily Bermudez made that possible. Isn't the media an "outside influence?"

Bermudez could have just said the university had reconsidered her contract and wanted to alter it -- take it or leave it. Instead, he inferred that McElroy was being discriminated against. What kind of hiring executive does something like that?

McElroy could have just walked away and no one outside of a few journalism grads would have ever cared. If asked, she could say the same thing: A&M wanted to alter my contract and I didn't like the new one.

It was probably all intentional and coordinated to cause the university trouble.

There are many associated with the university which are still pissed off that Sully wasn't removed, and A&M didn't give into all of the other BLM demands in 2020. They also want to destroy the Rudder Association so they use them as a boogie man anything something like this happens.

I don't understand how tenure could protect Bermudez doing administrative functions. His direct actions caused his employer to be drug into a legal matter - if that conversation is accurate. Anyone else in the real world (i.e., not academia) would of been fired in days.

McElroy showed her true colors (she's an DEI disciple who lawyered up). If A&M is smart they will just walk away. It's obvious A&M didn't want to be tied to her because the negotiations were significantly changing her contract. It's going to cost them money to walk away, but if they hire her it's going to be a disaster.

More of a reason to fire him. Hopefully, that will happen.

John Sharp (and a bunch of Aggie donors) will be in their way because he told Young to back off about Sully. The university lost around $150M that year and I'm sure they don't want a repeat of 2020. The faculty may not understand economics but the administration does. The wave of tearing down statues has passed and Sully is a worthy victor.

I found The Eagle's attacks against the Rudder Association to be silly and without any merit. You don't want an DEI professor, you are racist - elementary level stuff. The typical we don't like your speech or your right to speak; if you say something we disagree with you are racist. Hopefully, the Rudder Association will show the same mettle as James Earl Rudder. They have been responding with press releases and I expect they will continue to stand up.

So who exactly are they criticizing? The BOR for rejecting her contract, or the school administration for even offering it in the first place with full knowledge of what the BOR would do? This is a CF for the school regardless of your political stripe.
