I'm left feeling bad for those women who did not win.
I'll generalize here, and take criticism for it, of course. In my experience, women, particularly young women, don't take rejection very well at all. I think we males learn to handle that at an early age and deal with it much better.
For those young women to know that not only weren't they the prettiest, hottest, or (fill in your own word), but also that they lost to a biological male in a beauty contest has to be a real emotional gut punch.
But, as I'm not a women (nor have I ever fully figured out what makes them tick), I'm just speculating.
