An outline of our ship would have had a drag show going on.

That happens a lot. IIRC, Trump and the DNC have done this. People must like the silhouette of Russian equipment.

The RNC used the Liberian flag on their 4th of July tweet.

ETA: Navy should know better.

Because it was probably made by a Gen Z Binary that just searched the interweb for silhouette pics of a "warship" and "fighter jets" to make the post who didn't know the difference...

We've seen this story before.

At least within the past couple of years.

Apparently they didn't think anyone can recognize an aircraft by its silhouette. Yet there is this thing called Visual Aircraft Recognition (VACR) that does exactly that. We did a lot of it in Marine aviation. I thought the Navy was good at this sort of thing.

Well... Russia independence day is June 12th. Maybe the U.S. Pacific Fleet felt the need to have a late celebration for the crazy Russians while also celebrating America independence.

Or and hear me out or, because of climate change, America is out sourcing our destroyers to Russia so that we don't pollute the air or water in Maine.

I chop it up to some reject graphic designer from texas tech who hadn't a clue what they were doing.

The most likely scenario is that they outsourced the graphic design to India and those guys just used images of planes and ships in their military.

Maybe they subcontracted the job to someone with the personal pronouns of , //, and/or .

Disclaimer: I did a web search for Russian Personal Pronouns and those are from the page I found. I assume that they are correct. For all I know, they might actually be the names of the author's cats.

Edit. Apparently, TexAgs doesn't do Russian.

My son wanted a tank birthday cake for his 8th or 9th birthday. Mom had one made for him. When she unveiled it, he goes, "mom! That's a Russian tank!! It's the wrong shape to be American!" He was correct. At 24 now, he identifies targets and calls in artillery for the Army.

I recall the DNC did it. Soviet ship and the Italian Air Demonstration Team. Same thing that happened here, I'd bet. Some low-level staffer or intern was told to get military imagery and make a cool photo. So they hit Google and didn't read any captions.

When did someone in the Trump campaign or administration do it?

I'm afraid the RNC did close to the same thing, posting the Liberian Flag.

You have to chalk it up to ignorant graphic designers. You would think that people in the business of imagery would be a little more sensitive to the actual substance of their images, but education being what it is and a general lack of professionalism in the country today, it isn't surprising that these things are more common than they should be.

Everyone is lazy. Can't find quality much anywhere these days.
