When did heat index become the new actual temperature?

I've been in Thailand the last month and according to BBC and the rest of the World, Texas is melting. I remember it being over 100 real degrees for 60+ days not too long ago.

It has never been so hot, as it is right now. 90+ in the middle of the night.

It's hot but every summer in Texas is boiling hot. The MSM likes to keep mentioning it so we can spend trillions to stop their evil monster, climate change.

It's the first good summer all the covid era transplants experience.

I hope it bakes them out of here.

As a texan you know it is early to be this hot and humid. In DFW we have been breaking records for highest dew points ever

Where are you? It's been in the 70's at night here in South Texas. I'll also add, you seem to have forgotten how hot last summer was. This year isn't close to that yet.

Not to be obtuse, but where has it been in the 90s at night? It's been getting down into the 70s every night in SA.

DFW doesn't drop below 90 until 2 in the morning. So not all night... But a significant part. That is attributed to the record high dew points we've been experiencing

As of 6:25 this morning it is 80 degrees in DFW. So I guess it is warmer in north Texas vs south texas

Lots of rain that we needed. Rain makes humidity. Humidity makes it feel hotter. May be this way next year, maybe not. I think this is El Niño year with rain. We have them so often.

How I miss the 116 days in Tucson. At least then it cools off by 35 degrees every night and little humidity

When I landed at ABIA two weekends back returning from a trip, it was well over 90 at midnight. Last night, at 8:30, it was still in the upper 90s north of Austin. One of the cooler evenings in a while. The over night lows have been in the upper 70s, some mornings lower 80s.

Been here north of Austin since 1990, Texas since 1980. That first summer in SA was brutal. Over 100 most of the summer.

But this is the worst June I can recall. We've had hotter days in June, but not this kind of consistent, repressive heat for such a long stretch. Feels like a really bad August. Fingers crossed it breaks soon.

The heat index > temperature... Sensational ain't it!
The temperature is real measurable number.

Heat Index HI (a fitted number) RH = relative humidity.

HI = -42.379 + 2.04901523*T + 10.14333127*RH - .22475541*T*RH - .00683783*T*T - .05481717*RH*RH + .00122874*T*T*RH + .00085282*T*RH*RH - .00000199*T*T*RH*RH

Subtract [(13-RH)/4]*SQRT{[17-ABS(T-95.)]/17} if RH < 13%

Add [(RH-85)/10] * [(87-T)/5] if RH > 85%

IF T < 80F then just use HI = 0.5 * {T + 61.0 + [(T-68.0)*1.2] + (RH*0.094)}

Finally make sure HI is always greater than T (by fudging it)

Heat tolerance decreases as you age. It always feels hotter than it was when you were younger.

Actually the heat feels better as you age. Personal experience.
Give me a month or two of 100+ over a month or two of -10F any day.

Spent many a summer riding my bicycle and playing outdoor basketball all day and didn't think much of it…just needed a large thermos of ice water. Those days are long gone.

I looked back at DFW average June temps.

In the past 20 years, the average has been in the 70s just 3 times

In the 20 years before that, the average was in the 70s 7 times.

It's getting hotter on average.

Amen to this!! I've been saying this for years.

Oh, and it's 75 in Lubbock this morning. 20-30 degree diurnal temps are good for wine grapes.

It's been about a 2 week heat wave for a lot of the state, but it's looking like temperatures will start dropping through the end of this week. It's showing mid 90's highs next week with chances of rain again. Seems like pretty normal Texas summer weather.
AggieLumberjack

All this arguing but it is clearly hotter for mid June than it's been in a very long time. Two summers in a row have been horrible. I don't think it has anything to do with climate change but drought last year and heat wave this year sucks.

I thought it's been a pleasant June all together here in dfw. Yeah this week is hot but the rest of June has been relatively below average. Hell there were two days where it didn't get above 80. Hah. I'll take this.
