Two of my kids are competitive soccer players.

It was never more perfectly clear to me than when my son's team, an upper tier regional team, scrimmaged against a nationally ranked girls team at U13 to help the girls get ready for a big showcase tournament. It was a very close, even scrimmage and I walked away very impressed with this group of dedicated girl athletes.

Fast forward just 2 years later, we scrimmaged this same group of girls under similar circumstances because their coach thought it was good for their toughness.

This time the score after about 45 minutes was 10-0. So what changed? The boys hit natural, male puberty and got faster, stronger and more coordinated. Across the board. Suddenly we dominated at every position and it certainly wasn't because we had been training or practicing any harder than this elite girls team.

When I was at OCS (2006) my Senior training company had a 3-on-3 pugil stick battle against the other Senior company. The other company had a female platoon so they broke the women up and had them fight each other 3-on-3, but the male candidates from my company lined up against the men from theirs in 27 separate matches. The difference in speed, aggression, and violence between the male and female fights was quite noticeable.
