Why do supposedly smart CEOs do things like this which tanks their companies? It is just lose-lose.

Bud Light no longer rules the American beer market.
Modelo Especial overtook the brand as the top-selling U.S. beer in May, punctuating a monthslong boycott of Bud Light that has reshuffled the beer industry.
Modelo represented 8.4% of U.S. retail-store beer sales in the four weeks ended June 3, compared with 7.3% for Bud Light, according to an analysis of Nielsen data by consulting firm Bump Williams.
Bud Light's sales have tanked since April, when transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney posted an image on Instagram of a personalized Bud Light can that the brand had sent her as a gift. The Instagram post sparked an uproar, and brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev's response to the boycott angered even more people.
Bud Light's sales were down about 24% in the week ended June 3 compared with the same week last year, according to Bump Williams. Other Anheuser-Busch brands also have taken a hit, including Budweiser and Michelob Ultra.

Really obvious question, but is the Modelo market share number 1 fue to the growth of the Hispanic population in the US? I didn't realize it was such a popular beer.

I've been doing my part ever since they came to TX.

I had no idea that Modelo was that popular.

Not believing this at all. We were told by a couple of really smart posters here that this was just a blip or that the gay/trans community would pick up the slack.

Modelo has been marketing the hell out of their beer the last few years. It's been working. Add in that they recently released their light beer, Oro, and it only helps their sales.

Another AB beer.
But it his head and shoulders above Bud Light.

Everyone needs a hobby, try home brewing & see if there's an association/organization/club for it in your area.

The left in their arrogance thought they were the only political block that could exert influence on the marketplace. They had big business convinced of it too.

Between Bud Light and a few other progressive pandering marketing disasters, it looks like there's a new sheriff in town.

Technically, in the US, they are owned by Constellation Brands, and outside of the US, they are owned by InBev.

However, your point still stands and you won't see me buying it. Dos XX for me if I go that route.

It's still an AB InBev brand but it is a good beer and doesn't help Bud Light.

Has to be. I don't know anyone that drinks it but few of my friends drink light beer.

We are all better than that.

Just to confirm previous posters

"In 2013, Grupo Modelo was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. However, the U.S. Justice Department required that AB InBev sell the rights to Corona and Modelo in the United States to Constellation Brands as part of an antitrust settlement."

Negra Modelo was my go to beer. Not a big drinker but I'll avoid all AB beers going forward.

More expensive? Yuengling where I go is always about the same price as stuff like Bud Light. They can't sell to every state which is why they can't get the same market share

I had two people yesterday pissed that we no longer had Busch Light and it was replaced with Yuengling Flight.

Asked where they had been the last 2 months.

Did it come to pass that you and the rest of the roof crew drank it icy cold at 10am, courtesy of the hardest screw that ever walked a turn?

You aren't going to kill AB so give up on that goal. What you can do is have such a massive impact on the Bud Light brand that other brand managers take note and make better decisions. BL is down 1/3 since January so right now it's working.

every corrupt or unscrupulous organization has a fall guy put in place to absorb any backlash. in this case, it was a fall girl. this is why i detest bureaucracies.

Modelo's television campaign focuses on tough guys/women who made their mark doing interesting things. It's gritty, with low lighting and haunting music, and features mostly minorities.

The tag line is "Fighting Spirit," which is the polar opposite of Bud Light and Dylan.

I'm not surprised it's working.
