I'd love to see the average American male, who, per Google, 5'9" and weighs 200 (over 50 lbs overweight go up against those women. Yes, they don't compare to the guys in the NBA, but Google Serena playing a couple of average guys to see if they could beat her because she's "a girl". It didn't turn out like they'd thought it would.

Because the average WNBA player salary in 2022 was like $100k. Men can make more money elsewhere.

Average WNBA money is 120k (vs 9.6m for the league that attracts eyeballs and advertisers).
Bound to be some men willing to go against the WNBA and try to break the glass ceiling.

100k is far, far greater than the average salary, despite everyone on texags clearly being millionaires. Still, even if it weren't, you would do it more for fame/notoriety, playing a sport being more fun than the average career, etc.

IMHO, this would be met with a ton of backlash even though we are rapidly sliding in our country. I personally hope it never happens.

I wouldn't call that playing an "average" guy. He was like top 200 in the world in pro tennis. Nowhere near the top of the pros, but also a very long way from average. Guys on the level of college athletes could certainly crush most women's pro leagues, but I don't think a truly average guy could walk in and do it either.

There's a big difference in the distribution of height, strength, muscles mass, etc between men and women, but the female outliers playing pro or semi-pro sports are mostly going to fall above the male average. For example, the average WNBA player is 6' tall and in better shape than the average American male. A bunch of average height, overweight guys are not going to keep up with physically fit women 3" taller than them on average.

Those aren't exactly average men, and an office job making decent money is probably better than the travel and practice schedule. Plus, there's really no fun in that kind of competition. TLDR they have better things to do.

A college male athlete would be tops of their profession in any female sport. I mean unless we are talking the lowest of the low divisions as a walk on type. Any scholarship male athlete in FBS basketball would be the best WNBA player day 1 he got to the league.

I get that, I was just going off what OP posted.

WNBA is so lacking in quality compared to NBA that any failed male college basketball player could easily make it there. The money offered there is good enough for them. You don't have to be making zillions.

Go to your local high school gym and pick out the best couple players. Those guys are generally taller than 6'0 and can usually dunk even if shorter than that. They would be able to work those WNBA players pretty well. Basketball isn't tennis. It's explosion and height/wingspan and raw speed/agility/quickness.

There's a reason most ncaa womens scout teams are made up of a bunch of washed up high school guys who could never sniff men's college ball. The best players at the Rec at A&M who aren't college athletes could absolutely rake our women's team over the coals and would probably be able to win some WNBA games. Don't kid yourself.

The worst Ivy league men's team or worst Missouri Valley team would go undefeated in a WNBA schedule.
