Not entirely sure what to add to this that was wrong with the original post. I did insult him but given what he's saying, it's beyond selfish, naive and idiotic. The guy thinks people who have a problem with the Saudi involvement in 9/11 are wrong.

Why are pro golfers being singled out for doing business with Saudis when so many others are doing it as well? This was a set up question that some turd reporter asked DeChambeau. It's not like he just offered it up. I could give a crap what any pro golfer thinks about 911 or any other political issue.

It a common situation I see teenagers face.

One thing to be the villain and not well liked for reasons related to the game.

It's a completely different thing to be the villain because you think people should get over the deaths of 3,000 plus people so your financial backers aren't offended.

Sure, he should have punted on the question. But this response isn't terrible and definitely not what is being portrayed.

I know next to nothing about DeChambeau so I don't have a dog in this fight but in case you're interested in reading past the headline and the OP's misleading title (you'll notice he never used the word "forget"), here is his actual quote:

No offense to the OP, but he appears to have been caught by Fox's clickbait Twitter post. The whole response that others posted isn't nearly as bad as Fox tried to make it.

When the Saudi's own you and your league and you make this statement there is no benefit of doubt.

He wasn't promoting this prior to joining liv.

Yikes. Why would he think it's a good idea to say something like that?

While I'm not going to boycott watching LIV players because of the Saudis, I think trying to address it like that creates more of a problem than solves it.

The more of the quote, the better the context.

In a way, he is certainly not wrong. Even my grandfather got to a point of forgiving the Japanese for what they took from him (early years with his daughters, my mom and aunt, and damn near his life in the South Pacific when he was aboard 2 separate ships that were torpedoed and sunk), but it took him 50ish years to get there.

But my thinking is that if you did not lose a loved one or friend on 9/11, then your opinion is not really going to be valued - especially when all you see is that OP's quote.

Edit - while I suffered no personal loss on 9/11, I will never forget that day.
