Basically they don't see a way to make it with the conference bookings they have, which are down due to the chaos in the San Fran streets. I know, they are getting what they voted for, but it was a beautiful city at one time.

The next "big one" to hit San Francisco is going to cause billions of dollars of improvements.

The libs will see an opportunity to turn these large hotels into glorified homeless shelters.

Talked to a girl this morning who is going there for vacation.
Never been. Very dismissive about crime/homeless problem. Thinks things are overblown.
She has no idea what she's in for.

I've lived in East Bay for almost 20 years, and I assure you it's not overblown. It's literally like walking around an apocalypse in a third world country in the city now. I've only been to the city once in the last 7 years, and will not be going back.
In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.

Impossible.

Bay Fan told me a few weeks back when Matthew Wykoff from Magnolia, Tx transferred from A&M to Cal Berkley and people said he was in for a culture shock...

That 'there are not any more homeless people in the East Bay area than there is in College Station / Bryan'

I think this is at least the 4th thread on this topic in the last 3 days...but I'll allow it.

What does she say when you point out that Walgreens and CVS are closing all their shops in the area due to the rampant theft and Hilton would rather default on its mortgages than continue operations? Or that crime was getting so bad that freaking ultra progressive San Franciscans ousted their DA in a recall election? Does she think that they're all doing this for funsies?

I'm guessing she bought non-refundable airline/hotel reservations before doing her research, and she is trying to convince herself she didn't make a big mistake.

We went a year and a half ago and had a blast. We saw lots of homeless, were careful to either leave nothing in the rent car or leave the windows down, stay in highly trafficked areas, etc.

I didn't see any feces on the street or needles. I saw some obviously highly intoxicated folks. I always keep my head on a swivel anywhere we go that even approaches risky. I am extremely security conscious and will either avoid bad situations or get violent to put it down immediately when confronted with a threat that is obvious, but it didn't happen when we were there for 4 days.

I don't doubt it's bad, I just didn't see it on my trip.

Hope she wasn't planning to stay at the downtown Hilton

And so was the State of California.
