Worth noting that it looks like a mix of races attacking the victims, and then a couple of older black bystanders who intervened at the end to try to stop the beatings.

Fair point.

Who knows what happened before though? You could run a story probably weekly about a Marine who got his butt whipped in a fight at a bar in Oceanside because he can't handle his alcohol and didn't know when to shut his mouth. Usually it's by another Marine and so it's a non event. I don't know if that's what happened here, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were more confrontational than their portrayal of events.

Not only that, but the age of the attackers likely put the marines on the defensive right from the onset of hostilities.

Violence of action, going on the offensive as soon as justified, could have dissuaded the attackers early on, but I'm sure the Marines were hesitant to lay the beat down on some minors and have to deal with those repercussions. That no doubt emboldened the numbers it took to overwhelm them.

No reprisals for anything ever=people not worried about consequences.

50 teenagers, but if each Marine had grabbed even 1 and slammed his head in the pavement until it exploded most of the others would have lost their nerve real quick and in San Clemente the Marines would have been no billed.

Otherwise, I'd say bull ****ing **** Just wait until the fire pissers in their platoons from Pendleton decide to get all tuned up and want go out on Friday night and to head to San Clemente. Better yet, just any jarhead that might want to participate in a 'show of force' might be out there.

You get into it with me, I can honestly tell you that there will be at least a knife involved. I'll take my chances on self defense in court before I end up on the other side of the dirt.
