Tom Hanks talked about "truth, justice and the American way."

"Propaganda and bald-faced lies will erode over time," Hanks said. "Idolatry and imagery lose luster and effect."

He went on, saying, "Ignorance and intolerance can be replaced by experience in the wink of an eye, but indifference will narrow the vision of America's people and make dim the light of Lady Liberty's symbolic torch."

Hanks told the class there are three types of Americans and that they will have to make a choice between "those who embrace liberty and freedom for all, those who won't, or those who are indifferent."

The difference, he, added, is in "how truly you believe, in how vociferously you promote, in how tightly you hold to the truth that is self-evident that of course we are all created equally yet differently and of course we are all in this together."

"We are all but human," Hanks said.

Hanks said that, "the truth, to some, is no longer empirical. It's no longer based on data nor common sense nor even common decency."

"Telling the truth is no longer the benchmark for public service. It's no longer the salve to our fears or the guide to our actions. Truth is now considered malleable, by opinion, by zero-sum end games," he said. "Imagery is manufactured with audacity, with purpose to achieve the primal task of marring the truth with mock logic to achieve with fake expertise, with false sincerity."

People "play fast and loose" with the truth, he stressed.
"Every day, every year, and for every graduating class, there is a choice to be made," he said.
He called post-graduation "the never-ending battle you have all officially joined as of today."

"If you live in the United States of America, the responsibility is yours. Ours. The effort is optional, but the truth is sacred, unalterable, chiseled into the stone of the foundation of our republic," he said

The crazy thing is a democrat, and a republican would each rally around that speech

He is an award winning actor and this "performance" is no different.

Never, ever listen to what people say, only watch what they do.

He had better be careful. Talking like that will get him labeled a conservative.
I agree, this speech takes aim at the Democratic party.

Sounds like Biden's Press Secretary's modus operandi

.
You know he means Ron DeSantis right?
Probably talking about how Ron has put gays in prison, you know, the truth.

I don't get political views from entertainers. I put a dime in the box and let them dance for me.

Dance, Tom - dance.

Unless they agree with me. Amirite?

No. The point is not that simplistic. Some actors are not mindless leftist zombies. Some actually risk their own career, status, and being cancelled to join the actual movement to conserve freedom and liberty and justice.

Like Ronald Reagan or Gary Senise or James Woods. Dennis Miller. You get the point. These are not sadistic CAA drones like 99.8% of Hollywood. As for those 99.8%, yes, shut up and act.

Except he's making the liberal a good guy in the conservative the bad guy. Listen more carefully.

He saying the right words, but the meaning behind them is not as it seems.

I know exactly what he's doing. That's why I said he had better be careful.

It's ironic that he is talking about THE truth when his side supports "MY" truth. (AKA not the truth)

The Hanks posts were some of my favorites.

Well he has used his own money to produce some very good films and series about WWII. Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers come to mind.

So I'll give him a few points for that.

Apollo 13 and From The Earth to The Moon were also very good.

(Even though the whole moon landing was staged)

Did Brandon ever identify the mods who were supporting the Q threads and banning anyone who mocked them?

I remember one poster in particular who accused everyone on here of supporting Satan's pedos like Hanks if we watched TV.
Im much more concerned with F84 abuse than the Q thread silliness. Banning people for speaking counter-narrative (now verified) truth on a public service forum is a whole lot worse than keeping a thread dedicated to the conspiracy theorists of that flavor.

It's a good speech. What is nice about it is that it's talking to everyone. It's one of those speeches that if you find it to be offensive or irritating, it's because you're the ****** bag he's talking about. If you don't, and agree with it, then you are probably on the right side of things and it makes a lot more sense.

If you hate a guy like Tom Hanks then okay you probably just hate most people. That speech seemed fine.

I'll be glass half full. The guy is a hell of an actor and I've enjoyed watching his films. It seems at least some patriotism would have rubbed off on him, after researching and acting in his military roles.

At least he didn't bash conservatives in any way(if that was his point?), and offered up a generic word salad that worked for everyone.
Pretty sure most of you don’t know me.
