The end goal isn't 'Truth vs. Fiction. Rather, this provides a back door for the Government to suppress speach; and of course it's not surprising that t.u. would be entrusted to carry this out under the guise of research.

In some form or fashion it has been going on for quite some time. Easy examples are the FDA, USDA using studies to ban foods and drugs.

I heard Dan Bongino discussing this a few days ago. If I recall, there were funds earmarked for gang research and a lot of them were diverted to this study of "disinformation". I don't remember any other details. I was thinking that this can't be true. Guess again!

Didn't Obama issue an EO or sign a law that made it legal for our own government to do stuff like this? I believe it was previously illegal and now it isn't.

Depends on how you look at it.

Some say it just removed a ban on Americans being able to access state created content intended for foreign audiences and that there are still other bans on propaganda in place.

Others say it technically opens up the possibility for the government to legally propagandize us.

I've heard both arguments and it's hard for me to tell if either is "correct."
