Quote:

One exchange which has had to come out is the discussion between People's Front of Judea members Stan (played by Idle) and Reg (Cleese). Stan says that he wants to be known as Loretta and to have babies. 'It's every man's right to have babies if you want them,' says Stan. Reg counters: 'But you can't have babies.' At which Stan responds: 'Don't you oppress me.'

Cleese told an audience at his one-man show last week that when the scene (co-written with the late Graham Chapman) was performed at a read-through for the new show in New York last year, doubts emerged. 'At the end, I said to the American actors: 'What do you think?' And they said: 'We love the script, but you can't do that stuff about Loretta nowadays.'

'So here you have something there's never been a complaint about in 40 years, that I've heard of, and now all of a sudden we can't do it because it'll offend people. What is one supposed to make of that? But I think there were a lot of things that were actually, in some strange way, predictive of what was actually going to happen later.'
So conservatives are accused of banning books for trying to keep overtly sexual content out of grade school libraries while these same accusers insist you can't ridicule the idea of men having babies.

John Cleese is one of the greatest comedic talents in history. Reason did a great article about him being very anti-woke due to the stifling of creativity.

The reason this is being discussed is exactly the point they were making (and why it should be in the script).

These are weak-minded jokes of humans. They are able to freely enjoy bashing on Christianity (go for it), but then they find it "offensive" about a joke about simple anatomy.

Clown world indeed.

The activist types are out looking to find something to be offended by so they can bully and intimidate and destroy and attract attention to themselves and seek power. They'll take any opportunity they can get. I despise that it results in the destruction of art and humor. Nothing provocative or controversial will be allowed.

The irony of this is that apparently now the play offends both the right AND the left. Its definitely a heretical play as it mocks the crucifixion and a few other things. Thought I have to admit there are some comical parts like the parting of the stream.

So are they going to use trans men in the stoning scene that was all women? We all know they threw stones like girls.

It reads to me as they did take it out, but it could be clearer. Perhaps it is still in discussion.

Well……..you're in luck. Cleese is working on a sequel to Fawlty Towers.

It was picked as the best British TV show ever in a ranking done a few years ago. I personally thought it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.

If Loretta offends trans women, Biggus Dickus probably offends transmen.

I am really surprised about his reaction due to the fact that Great Britain is much mre woke than we are.

Maybe what surprises him is that the "woke disease" has finally crossed the "big pond".

False equivalency.

Conservatives might have complained but those parts still exist, and are still performed.
Liberals are eliminating anything that offends their ever changing cultural race to the bottom.
