I don't see Kemp as a RINO but I think he would be a less desirable choice for DeSantis as a running mate because it will absolutely turn off a significant number of Trump folks and gain him very few new votes. He needs someone that is at least acceptable to Trump even if they aren't a hardcore MAGA person.

Kemp seems superbly squishy to me. He strikes me as being conservative for the sole purpose of that is what is convenient for him now.

Him on a DeSantis ticket would be poorly received. If DeSantis is the nominee, I think he has to go west for his mate or pull in a big fish from the northeast,

Ultimately it's silly to worry about the VP choice, for about another year. And really, it's proven to have zero impact on elections the past 20-30 years. Did anyone actually vote for Biden because of veepthroat? W because of Cheney? Tim Kaine? Dan Quayle? Heck, Algore lost now-communist New Hampshire with Joe friggin' Lieberman on the ticket from down the street.

Agree you have to wait another year to pick, but I think picking the wrong VP can hurt more than a "right" one can help. To your point, many of them wind up being "meh" more often than not.

If we're selecting an AA, I'd much prefer Byron Donalds. He's a Trump-supporter, but has gone out of his way to say how much he respects RD, and I think he's fantastic with the media.

Tim Scott is alright, but I feel he'd cave under pressure.

Youngkin would make sense as far as getting Virginia in play as a swing state if he maintains his popularity. Think he is sitting at like 58% approval rating which is pretty damned good when you consider the number of D voters in Virginia.

He definitely needs to find someone popular in a swing state that doesn't have a massive persona that turns off some voters. He needs a Joe Lieberman type of running mate.

I would be beyond shocked if DeSantis has not thought the matter through and been negotiating exactly how this will work for a while now. My guess is it will be more of a typical format of them in 2 chairs a few feet apart just having a conversation.

It's genius not only because it is original but because it is far more engaging and interesting than a typical stump speech style announcement. This is basically putting him in a situation where he is having to answer questions and talk about policy in a less controlled way and thus people are going to watch. It's going to be must see TV for any political hack and just the curious. My guess is it will also go on for a while and there will be a lot of spontaneity. Some risk with that of course but DeSantis is very good at this stuff.

Also, Musk would be a fool to try and "gotcha" him or make DeSantis look bad. Musk would LOVE for future candidates to follow this model and the way to do that is to allow it to just be a "get to know you" style. That fits with what he wants Twitter to be, a place for free speech and new ideas. Then later he can offer to host debates if he stays neutral enough.

Doubt Musk would be too critical. He has been positive about Desantis in the past, even saying he would be willing to endorse him. That was before buying Twitter, so I can see him backing off that a bit now. He has made it clear he doesn't want Trump as a candidate though.
